I walk over to my own desk setting down the box of cinnamon rolls and shrugging out of my coat, tossing it over my chair. I pick up my tablet, navigating to our inventory, confident that there was just something wrong with Stella’s numbers.
There had to be because what other answer was there.
Right there on my own tablet are the same numbers that were on Stella’s. Actually less since every time the inventory refreshes the number of available stock continues to dwindle.
I close out of the inventory and go to Lovely Day’s Instagram and I am bombarded by the amount of notifications that have accumulated both from comments on the launch day post and story tags. I go to the comments of the post and there’s comment after comment tagging Bryce.
Just placed my order @Sonny
Can’t wait to try this out! @Sonny
@Sonny influenced me!
And on and on and on.
I navigate to Bryce’s page and right there in his story is a post from a few minutes before the launch. It’s a picture of him holding the jar of lemon vanilla body butter with the view of the sky mid-flight as the background. The caption is simply ‘the best’ withLovely Daytagged.
“How does he even have a jar of the new body butter already? We didn’t do any PR boxes for this launch, right?” Cass asks.
I didn’t notice her come up behind me, but she takes the tablet from my hands and studies the photo.
“No, we decided against PR boxes this time because we just did them with the holiday launch,” Reagan says.
“Sooo,” I say, dragging out the word.
Three sets of eyes turn to look at me and I feel like the temperature in the room has been raised tenfold. My heart races as I start to speak, my words coming out fast as I try to explain.
“Remember that time when you asked me to come get the shipment of inventory that I was getting delivered?”
“Yeah, but what does that have to do with anything?” Cass replies.
“Well I was with Bryce, um Sonny, and he offered to bring me and I gave him a tour of the office and then we started talking about my favorite products so I gave him one of the body butter samples we had.”
Cass starts to pace, the click of her heels echoing through the room, each step making me more anxious about whatever she’s going to say.
“I didn’t think it was a big deal and I didn’t know that he was going to post about it,” I rush to add.
I cringe when Cass starts to speak, worried that she’s going to be pissed at me for doing something like that without asking first. She opens and closes her mouth twice, unable to get the words out. Cass pivots on her heel, walks up to me, and pulls me in to a tight hug.
We pull apart and she holds on to my shoulders and finally speaks. “This is amazing!”
“Wait, so you’re not mad at me?” I ask, shocked.
“This is the best launch day thatLovely Dayhas ever had,” Cass says, dropping her hands and going back to pacing. “And all from just one damn post. Imagine what would happen if…”
I tune the rest of what she says out, my head spinning about what the actual fuck is happening.
“We just sold out of everything!” Reagan says from across the room.
“Girls, it's time to get to packing!” Cass says excitedly.
Cass, Stella and Reagan start walking to the warehouse where the packing station is set up.
“I’ll be there in one minute,” I call out to them.
I take my phone out of my pocket and FaceTime Bryce. I tap my foot as I wait for the call to connect, on the very last ring he finally answers.
“You were not supposed to post about it,” I whisper yell at him.
