“Fuck me,” he snapped. “You keep that shit up, and you’ll be overfilled with cum.”
She giggled, tugging on him again. He arched and growled at the full moon while grinding against her, setting off a mini-orgasm.
“Sorry,” she said.
“Don’t you dare apologize. It’s the most exquisite pleasure I’ve ever experienced,” he admitted.
She smiled up at him. “How long will we remain locked together, this time?” In the bathroom, they’d been connected for fifteen minutes. She’d been surprised when he pulled from her and a rush of his release followed. This time however, it was different.
Mackenzie shifted his weight onto one hand and used the other to rub at his forehead. “Not sure.” He looked down at her, and Aurora’s breath caught in her chest. His blue eyes swirled with lust and an emotion she could only wish for—love. “We’re pretty tied up. I need to situate us, so we’re comfortable, because I don’t think we’re going anywhere for a while yet. I wish the fuckin’ thing would just go down already.”
Her heart sank, but she kept her tone light. “Why? Are you ready to get rid of me already?”
“Fuck no. I want to fuck you again. But first, I want to pull my cock out of you and watch my cum trickle out of you.”
Aurora rolled her eyes at him. “Pervert.”
He chuckled then groaned. “Note to self, I can’t laugh, either; it’s the same effect as if you were to move. Don’t know how it’s even possible. My goddamn balls should be dry by now.” Then, he grew serious. “Did I hurt you?”
Aurora shook her head. “No. Not at all. A little full, sure. A little overwhelmed by all of this, but I feel good.” She didn’t act coy, nor did she play games. It just wasn’t in her DNA, so she laid it out there for him. Whether or not he felt the same, had been up to him. “I love you, Mac.”
“I don’t deserve your love, but I’m greedy and selfish, and I’m going to take all of it and cherish every single day I’m blessed to have you in my life.” She saw it then, the love reflected in his eyes, the emotion she could pinpoint from earlier, shone brightly, twinkling to life in his gaze.
“I get to hold your brilliance, your love, in my arms from this day until we take our last breath on this Earth. I’ve lived most of my adult life shrouded in darkness, drowning on bullshit until you came along. You’re my star. Illuminating the darkness with your love for me. I’m so blessed to have you in my life. I love you, too, Aurora,” he added.
Chapter Thirteen
The town had been a flurry of activity since Thanksgiving. Charisma’s father, Jefferson, came out to the whole world as being a mate while simultaneously announcing his retirement in the next breath. His replacement, Emersyn Lake was already in D.C., continuing Jefferson’s work. The first thing on her plate had been the removal of two senators who’d been trying to blackmail the man. Mackenzie had been so caught up in Aurora and trying to put Holly away forever, he hadn’t realized Jefferson was struggling as well.
When the two senators were censured and removed from office, they were going to be tried in a district court in Washington D.C., for not only their participation in the auction, but for also trying to blackmail Jefferson. Mackenzie knew the man didn’t want to leave Window Rock, but with the upcoming trials, the good senator would be forced to testify. Until then, though, Mackenzie was glad Jefferson was calling Window Rock home. At least now, the man could be with his daughters and grandchildren, where he’d belonged the whole time.
Thanksgiving also brought about another turn of events for them, Hayden had been hiding a secret. Something, if Danielle hadn’t worked her magic, none of them would have known about. The gravity of the situation wasn’t lost on him even though he’d watched the scene unfold from the peripheral. Had Hayden been human, the little copper IUD Danielle finally found would have led to sepsis, and death. Bad enough, the little instrument of torture perforated Hayden’s uterus and, due to her natural healing ability, was imbedded in the organ. It’d taken Danielle several hours to remove the blocker then repair the damage done to their niece.
It would be a long road to recovery for his niece, but if anyone could do it, it was Hayden. The girl had been to the depths of hell, ruled over the minions, and tamed the devil. This was just another steppingstone to becoming healthy and finally doing the one thing she desperately wanted, have a pup of her own—not that she didn’t love the hell out of the little girl she’d adopted, Emmeline, and their adopted son, Asher, she did, but biologically, it was different. He understood her, as did the others.
Which was why he was in the courthouse, on a Tuesday morning, waiting for the District Attorney to open the door. When Charles did, Mackenzie stepped into the D.A.’s office along with Kalkin, Logan, and Royce. Kalkin had made the call the minute they figured out what was wrong with Hayden. But, they’d all figured out while standing there in Kalkin’s living room, enjoying the moment, they had to have more information. The item was all nice and dandy, however, without knowing where it came from, it wouldn’t mean a hill of beans during the trial.
Even while they ate apple cake and shot the shit with one another, they were also working. At one point, Adrian stepped away from the table, and when he returned, he’d traced the IUD back to a lab in the Midwest. Coincidentally, the same lab where Hayden had been found after Henry Worthington kidnapped her the first time, when she was five. It’d also been the same place Jase had been held and was finally destroyed by Danielle and Keeley after being tortured by Hazel and Simon. It appeared, to him at least, the Geithner family had an affinity for the place.
“Charles.” Kalkin held out his hand. “I appreciate you meeting all of us on such short notice.”
“Good morning gentlemen,” D.A. Franks said, taking Kalkin’s hand in greeting. “Before we start, I have to warn you, this might not be admissible. As soon as I received your phone call, I set up a meeting with opposing counsel and the judge to go over this newfound evidence.”
Mackenzie liked how straightforward Charles was. He didn’t blow smoke up anyone’s ass. He wanted facts. Evidence. He was all about procedure. They all took a seat while Kalkin pulled the little torture device from a small paper evidence bag. Charles and Kalkin both signed the evidence tape before Kalkin broke the seal and pulled the device from the bag. The degraded object turned Mackenzie’s stomach as he stared at it. Thatthinghad caused his niece nothing but heartache.
“This is a PBH special, it would appear,” Kalkin said. “The etched bar code and sequence registry comes from a now defunct, or more accurately, destroyed lab in the Midwest. The same lab that held my mate, her sister, Hayden at one point, and my brother.”
“I can attest to this,” Logan said, stepping forward. “I was the one who rescued Hayden.”
Charles sat back in his chair. “And you got this how?”
“Danielle removed it from Hayden after an examination. She had significant damage done to her. If need be, Danielle will testify.” Royce handed Charles the report Danielle had written.
“Shit.”
Hayden slammed into the office. She had a file in her hand and a determined look on her face. “There’s more!” She gave the folder to Charles. “Sorry I’m late. I know you told me to rest, but I received the results from the necropsy and DNA tests performed on Nicole Bloom and the deceased baby shifters.”
“What does it say?” Kalkin asked.
