Page 31 of Betraying Bexley

“D-Do y-y-you...” Bex swallowed hard and took a cleansing breath to gather her tattered wits. “Do y-you think t-they’ll fight?”

Bronx shrugged. “Not sure. Maybe. They’re guys. You know how it is. They have to measure dicks and burn off some of that testosterone.”

“S-Shouldn’t w-we h-help?”

Bronx giggled. “And do what, Bex?”

She didn’t know. Stop them for doing something stupid? Keep them from getting hurt? All it would take was one person catching them and they’d all get into trouble. It was bad enough the car was up on the sidewalk.

“You’re really going to push this?” Alé snorted, shaking his head. “Our best three against you three. Name the fucking place.”

“Bedlam,” Kenner said. “They have empty parking deck. Fifteen minutes.”

Alex checked his watch. “It’ll be easy, and we’ve still got time.”

“Cutting it close though,” Eito said.

“Well, guess we’ll be turning this fight into a lesson,” Jacolbi added, rolling his eyes as he headed for the car. “You’re both in for a treat.”

Bex’s stomach knotted. “N-No. Y-You’ll g-get h-hurt.”

“You do care.” Jacolbi tapped the tip of her nose. “Don’t worry so much, Bex. Have some faith in us.”

She wrinkled her nose.

“If we get into trouble, I’m blaming you two. I swear you always have to have pissing contests with people you despise.” Alé got in on the driver side after Alex slipped in beside Eito.

“They’re obnoxious morons, they deserve what’s about to happen to them.” Alex cut his gaze over his shoulder at Bex. “Besides, we can’t be showed up by Bex.”

Bronx laughed. “She totally had them right where she wanted them. Didn’t you, girl?”

“Uh...”

“So, who’s going to do this?” Bronx rubbed her hands together. “I kind of want to help.”

“I think it’s safe to say it’ll be me, Alex and Jacolbi. I think Eito had tons of fun earlier.” Alé followed the directions Eito read off to him. “The rest of you, that includes you too, Bex, don’t interfere unless you see something. Got it?”

“M-Me?” Bex pointed to herself.

“Yeah, you.” Alé grinned. “You have a vicious elbow. You can break bones with that strike of yours.”

Bullshit. He didn’t have to blow smoke up her ass to make her feel better. To be honest, she’d been relieved when they showed up. At least then she had a buffer between her and the All-Americans. But, thinking she was tough or could win some fight, no. It had been a stroke of luck she managed to wiggle free of Kenner’s grasp.

“D-Don’t m-make f-fun of m-me.” Bex frowned.

“We’re not.” Jacolbi sat forward. “You didn’t see yourself like we did. Bet you didn’t notice the scratch marks you left on Kenner’s forearm or the limp he had after you stomped on his foot.”

She glanced at Bronx who nodded. “I think she’s in shock.”

Bex probably still was. She glanced down at her fingernails and noticed for the first time the smudges of blood on her fingernails. Her palms of course were scraped up bleeding too, but it wasn’t her blood under her nails. “H-how?”

“Instinct kicked in, finally.” Alex shrugged. “You good?”

No. She was shaking, and her stomach was a little sloshy still. “Y-Yes.”

“No, she’s not,” Bronx stated. “She will be though.”

“Want a snack?” Eito asked. “I have some.”
