Page 48 of Betraying Bexley

“Is it about the case?”

She nodded.

Alé grunted. “Okay. Bex is getting a shower and insisting she goes home.”

Bronx figured at much. "I thought she might want to stay longer, but her fear level is maxed out right now, even with last night."

“Wouldn’t yours be?” Alé went to the coffee pot and grabbed himself a cup. “Her father has done nothing but tortured her for eighteen years. Now, he’s gone. I think I would be a fucking mess.”

"I hate it for her." Bronx frowned. "Hey, take her to get some breakfast, maybe run by the store or some shit or maybe you can get her some take out."

Alé chuckled. “You’re cute.” He leaned in and brushed his lips over hers. “I didn’t get to say thank you last night.”

Heat rushed through her body. “It was nothing.” She wasn’t bashful and she didn’t hide her sexuality either. She was bi. Granted, last night she hadn’t expected to get down with Bex, and Alé, but it’d been hot as hell and she wanted to do it again, for purely selfish reasons.

“You guys did the deed then?” Alex joined them at the table.

“Not exactly,” she hedged.

“Yeah, not exactly.” Alé smirked. “Still, it was fun.”

Alex rolled his eyes. “Okay secret society of Bex. I get it, you’re not going to share the juicy details. However, I’m happy for you guys. She deserves a little bit of fun in her life.”

They all did. Bronx cleared her throat and went back to combing through the net for more information on Sasha and Valerie. Already, she had a feeling she’d been finding matching information for Sasha and Marybeth.

Once Bex joined them, Bronx closed her laptop and tried to get the girl to stay with them longer than she’d been comfortable being there. When that didn’t dissuade Bex, Bronx relented. Again, she couldn’t be selfish. If she showed too much of her hand, Bex would rabbit quicker than they could explain.

“Are you sure you won’t stay one more night?” Bronx leaned against the car. Even though it was a bad idea, she still didn’t want to let go of Bex. Call it being greedy or whatever, but she liked Bex. A lot. “I had fun.”

Bex gave a shy little smile. "M-Me t-too."

“Then it’s settled you can stay.”

She shook her head. “H-Homework. M-Mr. Aquino’s essay.”

“Kuso,” Eito spat. “I forgot.”

"Sounds intense. Well, you have my—our numbers, if you get lonely or you want to come back, just call, okay?"

She nodded. “I-I w-will.”

When Alé returned from dropping off Bex, Bronx had found a shit load of stuff out about Marybeth and Valerie, yet suspiciously nothing on Sasha. It was as if the girl didn't belong in the group of twisted bitches. Bronx went through bank accounts, social media, everything, and came up with a big 'ol goose egg. No matter, they had more than enough on Marybeth and Valerie to last them a lifetime. It also meant calling Asher and setting up a secondary meeting.

“So, bring me up to speed before this meeting starts so I don’t feel out of the loop.” Alé sat down at the table and peered at the paperwork she’d placed before him.

“We know Valerie has been meeting the mayor in secret for about a year now. We also know OPUS pays her twice a month. What for, I can only imagine, but I am assuming it’s to torture Bex as they have been.”

“Right makes sense.” Alé scrubbed his chin as he flipped through the information. “Did you find anything out about the mayor?”

Bronx grinned, bouncing in her seat. “Oh yes.” She turned her computer in Alé’s direction. “He has three illegitimate kids. They range in age from twenty-two to six. It seems Mr. Haygood has always had a wandering eye when it comes to women of a certain age, if you know what I mean.”

“Holy fuck.”

"It gets better. I dug up some sexual harassment reports from the early nineties when he was in college. No less than fifteen of them. All of them ranged from inappropriate jokes to cornering women in the school and touching them. There are also two rape reports that went nowhere."

“Don’t tell me, one of the rape reports is the eldest kid?”

“Winner, winner chicken dinner,” Bronx replied. “According to what I’ve found, the girl went home after the assault and didn’t know she was pregnant until she felt the baby move. The birth certificate for the kid, doesn’t list him as the father, however, I think it’s to protect the child, not the mayor.”
