Page 56 of Betraying Bexley

Yeah, all fine and dandy for Alex, he shouldn’t give a shit, but how did they look at Bex when they went back to school? How did they shove the knowledge down of what they’d seen in the video without her realizing they knew? “I’m not saying I don’t believe you, but I don’t believe you.”

Noah chuckled. “You don’t have to. Not tonight. Go home get some rest and put it aside. Use the fire in your gut to exact some vengeance for Bex.”

Alex grunted. “Anything else?”

“Still working on the Sasha angle. I’ll have more information for you soon.” Thomas scrubbed his face. “What a shit trap this is.”

Bronx pushed away from the table and stood. “If you don’t mind, I need a minute to breathe.”

Alé followed closely behind her. They too had to deal with the fallout from the video. They were the ones who had the hots for Bex after all or had to pretend they had the hots for her, plus they’d shared her the past weekend. If anything, he suspected they were in way over their heads.

“You’re more than welcome to stay here tonight. Sleep in the family wing get a good breakfast in the morning and if you need to, talk with Rae about what you’ve seen,” Asher said. “None of you have to be alone right now.”

"She is though," Eito whispered. "Bexley is. She's been alone through all of it." His wounded gaze struck Alex and a lump formed in his throat. "Do we know if she's had any counseling or anything?"

Mateo cleared his throat. "She has. I made sure of it. It was the one thing I insisted upon, especially after the amputation of her leg. None of the students were the wiser either. It took some finagling after her surgeon and her hospital therapist was killed. She met with the person three times a week for six months, in a secluded office at the school. Afterward, the understanding was made, if she needed the crisis counselor, they were only a phone call away."

“Thank you,” Alex whispered. “For having her back when no one else has.”

Mateo shrugged. “I saw someone in need. What else was I supposed to do?”

"I think we'll take you up on the offer," Alex said. "My concentration is fucked for the rest of the night anyway. Plus, it'll give us some much-needed separation from the house and the case."

Asher nodded. “Sometimes you need to gain perspective before you can finish what you’ve started. I’ll have a team prepare one of the bigger apartments we have.”

“Thanks.” Alex nodded.

“No problem, kid. Now, relax a little. Don’t be so hard on yourself.” Asher patted his shoulder. “You can’t go to school tomorrow looking like you lost your best friend. It will all work out in due time. When it does, we’ll all be there to watch the mighty fall.”

Alex grinned a little. “Yeah, that will be a glorious sight.

Asher chuckled. “You’re damn right it will be.”
