Eito: ...
Alé: I thought about bringing her to the base.
Alex: Fuck me. You're out of your goddamned mind.
Bronx: Do it. Call or text Asher first.
Eito: You’re insane. Don’t do it. You’ll blow our cover.
Jacolbi: I agree with Bronx. Do it. What’s it going to hurt? We’re not getting anywhere anyway.
Alex: We’re fucked.
Eito: Your funeral man. But, good luck.
“Alé?” Bex touched his hand. “Everything o-okay?”
He nodded. “We’re good. Bronx was checking on you. She didn’t see you is all.”
“Oh.” Bex flushed, the pink tinge pushed back the gray edge. “S-Sorry.”
“Don’t be. It’s all good.” He grinned. “I need to make one call though. Something is up with our foster dad. He hasn’t been home in a couple days, and we’re kind of worried.”
She stared at him then blinked. “Uh...”
“Order for us. I’ll be right back.” He slid out of the booth then placed a kiss to her forehead. “I’ll eat anything.”
“O-Okay.”
He stepped outside and dialed Asher’s number. When the man answered, he rushed headlong into the subject. “I have Bex with me.”
“I’d hope so,” Asher answered. “Why do I have a feeling your words have a double meaning though?”
“She looks messed up. I brought her out to get some food and chill. But, something came up.”
“Kid, you need to cut the suspense shit. Just spit it the fuck out.”
“She knows you. Scotty and AJ. You and Noah.” He scrubbed his brow. “She said she misses AJ and Scotty. I kind of had an idea.”
“Oh fuck, kid.” Asher blew out a breath. “She knows about them due to the job fair at the high school. It didn’t even cross my mind she’d remember us.”
“Can I bring her to the base?” He rushed to add, “I know this could cause issues. It’ll blow our cover and will probably kill the mission, but if she knows you, maybe she’ll talk to AJ or Noah.”
Asher didn't say anything. Alé had been tempted to say sike and laugh then tell Asher he was going to spend the day with Bex. He'd also tell him to check in with Mateo too because of what happened with Kenner. Instead, Asher cleared his throat. "You think she might talk to them?"
“It’s worth a shot, right?”
“It also comes with inherent risks too,” Asher replied. “Nonetheless, you could be on to something with this line of thinking. Do it. We’ll have Paul and his brothers on standby should she try to bolt when she finds out the truth.”
“Understood. We’re eating breakfast now. I should be there within the hour.”
“I’ve got your phone tracked. We’ll see you then.” Asher hung up and Alé headed back into the diner.
On their table sat two short glasses of orange juice and two cups of coffee. His had been made for him, milk and he hoped sugar while Bex’s remained black. He took his seat across from her and grinned. He had to frame this right or like Asher said, it could backfire on them horribly.
“I changed my mind. I think I have something more fun for us to see.” He took a sip of his coffee and sighed in approval. “What you think about going to see some of my friends?”
“F-Friends of y-yours?”
