“You were incredible,” Tre complimented from the doorjamb. His eyes lingered on my lips. “You are incredible.”

“Thank you.”

He checked his watch. “Would it be possible for you to sit in the meeting this afternoon? I know you aren’t bound to this office, and you have other clients, but the board members from this morning think that you’d be an asset in that meeting. And so do I.”

“You want me to participate in the meeting?”

“No. Not this time. But there’s a meeting on Tuesday with the bankers who will be our point of contact and I’d love for you to actually participate in that meeting. For your plans to work, they will have to do their part and there’s no one better than you to explain what they need to do.”

“Yes, I can do that.”

Putting me in a room full of executives would not only be a good opportunity for me to network, but it also further proves my value to Franklin Financial.

“My father was briefed, and he said he’ll be contacting you,” he continued.

Everything stopped.

The smile dropped from my face. “What?”

Realizing he needed to clarify, he entered the room. “No, no.” He reached out for me and then stopped in his tracks, stuffing his hands in his pockets. “He was briefed on how well you did. That’s all.” He searched my face and lowered his voice. “You don’t have anything to worry about.”

Obviously, he doesn’t know about Josephine’s impromptu meeting.

It was a few seconds before I even realized that we were silently staring at one another. Just looking up at him initiated flashbacks that woke my body up.

Him in my bed.

Him between my legs.

Him fucking me from behind.

Him making me come so hard that my body spasmed.

I ripped my eyes away from his as desire dampened my panties.

Tre cleared his throat and took another step backward. “I have a few things to take care of, but I just wanted to let you know that you did a great job.”

“Thank you. I appreciate you—it,” I corrected quickly. “I appreciate it!”

He licked his lips. “I’ll see you at two o’clock, first floor conference room.”

Heat crept up my neck as I nodded. “Two o’clock.”

He stuffed his hands in his pockets and left.

When the door closed behind him, I let out a sigh of relief. I slumped back in my chair and squeezed my eyes shut. Even though he was no longer in my presence, my body still buzzed with excitement.

I wasn’t sure how much time had passed when there was another firm knock at my door.

“Come in,” I called out.

Josephine walked in with a pen and pad. “How is everything going, Ms. Jones?”

Should I try to look contrite? Should I make my eyes water? Should I be indignant?

I tried to read her expression, but I couldn’t.

“Everything is going well,” I replied slowly, clasping my hands in my lap.
