My head tilted to the side. “Tre…”

He grabbed my arm and coasted down the length of it until he reached my hand. “I told you. I got you.” His thumb swiped across my wrist. “Call me if you need me.”

“Thank you. For everything.”

He smiled, squeezed my hand and then let me go. “I’ll see you next week.” He looked at Jimmy. “I hope to see you again soon, Mr. Brown.”

“See you next week,” I called behind him as he exited the shop. When I turned to my godfather, he looked amused. “What?” I asked.

“He’s what? The owner of the business?” he questioned in return.

“He’s one of the executives at the company my contract is with. He’s the Chief Operations Officer.”

“Well”—he pointed in the direction of the door— “that motherfucker loves you.”

“Jimmy!” I exclaimed. “He does not.”

“I’m a man and I know how men show their love. And I’m telling you what I know, and that man Alex loves you.” He gave me a look as he pulled his hat on his head. “And I got half a mind to say that you love him, too.” He paused, assessing me. “Yeah, you do.”

“No, I don’t! And no, he doesn’t! He’s my supervisor,” I argued, flustered.

He opened his arms wide. “Okay, fine. What do I know?” He moved to the door behind the desk. “Let’s head out and see what the damage is and then get you your car.”

I followed behind him as he rattled on about the new tires he’d just gotten in. I was listening, but what he said about Tre being in love with me was nagging at the back of my mind.
