Chapter 13

“Of course I’m fucking worried,” I told Keisha two weeks later. “We thought everyone was gone, but when we left at seven o’clock, Chase’s office light was on. It’s finally happened.” I dropped my head into my hands. “I think we pushed our luck too far.”

She sat on the bench next to me and rubbed my back. “I’m sorry.”

That was it.

We sat in silence for at least thirty seconds before I lifted my head and looked at her. “What? Go ahead and say it. I know you want to.”

She motioned her fingers across her lips. “My lips are sealed.”

“No, say it.”

She widened her eyes and got close to my face. “What did you think was going to happen? From everything you told me, you two have been getting it in every day in his office. The odds were not in your favor. You two have beenfuckin’fuckin’ on the clock.”

“Why do you do that?” I laughed, pushing her arm away from me. “I didn’t ask for logic right now.”

“But seriously! I get the first time you two fucked in his office. That’s hot and sexy. It was spontaneous. It was building up for a month. But why have you done it every day since? You have a place to live. He has a place to live.”

“He came over last weekend,” I argued.

“And then that Monday, where did you do it?” she returned.

I made a face. “At work,” I whispered. “And I was even coming in on days I didn’t have to be there just to be around him.”

“So you two know how to fuck at home, you’re just choosing not to.”

“I don’t feel like I have a choice,” I admitted. “When I’m around him, at some point, his body will start calling me.” I gave her a serious look. “And for that man, I will always answer.”

Keisha laughed. “And that’s why your ass got caught! I’m not saying you shouldn’t fuck him; I’m just wondering why you’re doing it at work? Did you want to get caught?”

“It’s the threat of being caught that makes it sexy.Actuallygetting caught isn’t sexy. And it’s just as hot with him in a bed as it is with him on a desk or against the window or bent over the conference table or sitting—”

She held up her hands. “I get it! Now you just sound like you’re bragging.”

“I’m not bragging—well, I’m not bragginga lot.”

We giggled.

“My only concern is how this will affect your business. I love that you are having good sex with a good man who makes good money and is good for you. I love that for you. So, are the feelings real? Is it love or lust?”

“It’s definitely not just lust. I like him and he likes me. But waiting for the next few months to go by feels like torture.”

“You two barely made it a month and have already been low-key caught. Maybe you two need to have a talk about what it would look like if you went public. Because right now, you’re taking unnecessary risks.”

“I knowwwwwww,” I wailed loudly, letting my head fall back into my hands. “But we can’t just go public. It’ll ruin my reputation and it will completely derail Tre’s career.”

“So, what are you going to do?”

“Try this gold one,” the saleswoman demanded, popping up out of nowhere.

I stood, taking it from her hand. Before going into the dressing room, I looked back at Keisha. “I don’t know,” I said, answering her question.

“Well, you won’t know unless you try,” the saleswoman chimed in, loud and wrong.

It took everything in me to not burst out laughing.

I tried on the dress, and it didn’t work. I didn’t even have to zip up and I knew it wasn’t the right fit. I opened the door and showed my best friend who promptly agreed but handed me another to try.
