He was an asshole.

Silas snickered from the sofa while Brandon raised his fist to his mouth to stifle a laugh.

Roommate number three just looked at me as if awaiting my reaction. He likely wanted me to run out of here crying. I was close to doing exactly that as my eyes burned with unshed tears. And yet, I didn’t know what came over me as I raised my shin and kneed him in the groin with an extra amount of force. Immediately, he doubled over with a groan right as the other two boys began howling with laughter.

“Asshole,” I spat before grabbing the handle of my suitcase andstorming out of the room.

“Shit, man, are your dogs okay?”

More laughter filtered from their dorm.

“Stop calling them dogs!”

“She got you good, huh?”

“‘What do you think?”

“I’m thinking she hasballs—ow, fuck—”

I wiped a stray tear before smiling to myself as their voices became muffled, and I made my way down the stairs.

Chapter Three

The pack of frozen peas landed straight on my balls, forcing me to double over in another fit of pain.

“Sorry,” Brandon muttered, scratching the back of his head as he plopped onto the sofa beside me. As if his apology weren’t hollow enough, he made it worse by slapping my back.

I saw stars. My soul left my body.

“I thought you’d catch them.”

I shot him a dry look before tipping my chin up at the ceiling and settling the packet of peas between my thighs. Nausea still churned inside my gut, but thankfully, it wasn’t as strong as it was minutes ago when I thought I was about to black out.

“I’m starting to think you should reconsider how you talk to women, Cain.” Silas’s voice came from the kitchenette. No longer stripped naked.

I sighed. “Not now, Dunn.”

“Just saying, at least it wasn’t me this time.”

“True,” Brandon mused. “Usually, those are Silas’s dick peas.”

I groaned. “Did you seriously have to call them Silas’s dick peas?” My nausea was back, this time tenfold.

Brandon nodded gleefully as if he hadn’t traumatized me for the twentieth time this week. I hurled the cold packet towardshis face, but he dodged it at the last second. “Hey! I was just trying to help the situation here.”

I rose with caution and winced at the dull ache down there. Shit, that Martin girl had really done one on me. If she kicked with that much passion, she might actually be worth something at Celestia.

Not that I’d ever tell her that.

“Do you think she’s left?” Silas wondered, taking out a bowl from the top cupboard and then a carton of milk from the fridge. He took a few gulps before saying, “The girl who kicked Hunter in the balls?”

“I’m well aware of who you meant.”

He grinned at me. “Yeah, I know.”

Prick.

“One can only hope,” I muttered, thinking back to the moment I laid eyes on the petite girl by our doorway.
