“Nope. Never am, but even worse this year now that it’s Sophie I’ll be leaving behind.” My chest tightens as I really think about that. Sure, she’ll be waiting at home for me, but things are about to change, and I’m not sure yet how this new phase of our relationship will react to that.

“Cassie and I will be close by to help her manage it,” Grace says with a smile, and we’re past the cabanas and on the backside now, so hopefully my loud voice was enough to clue Missy and Steve in on the fact that they were very nearly caughtagaintonight. “It’s always a weird transition, but you have your own thing, and that’ll really help those days and nights when he’s away. It’ll be new for Cassie, too, since Tanner missed all of last season.”

“True,” Sophie says, and she and Grace walk a little ahead of us as Spencer and I talk about our plans for the week between when we return from the cruise and when training camp is set to begin. He’s already got plans to work out with the other wide receivers, and I assume our team trainer will put together a planfor the running backs, too. I just haven’t taken much time to look into any of it since I’ve been wrapped up in Sophie.

But it’s almost time to return to reality.

I’m pretty sure I’m not ready for it, but it’s coming whether I’m ready or not.

I guess the same can be said about a lot of things in life, but at least training camp is expected to come for me whether I’m ready or not.

CHAPTER 41: Sophie Summers

Cabanigans

We stayed out with Grace and Spencer later than we’d intended to, and Cassie booked excursions for the entire family at the final two ports of our trip. Today it’s a park in Honduras with something for everyone, and we’re all up and at ‘em nice and early with a meeting time of seven in the morning.

It’s far too early for vacation, but Miller and I force ourselves out of bed anyway since we don’t want to be the ones to ruin it for everyone else.

I take a short nap on the forty-five-minute drive from the port to the excursion, and our adventure begins.

There’s an area with “jump on your shoulder” monkeys that has most of the kids crying in fear, so they head to the pools where they spend the rest of the excursion. Miller and I walk a suspension bridge with Tanner and Cassie, and we take in the gorgeous views all around us. We have encounters with macaws and parrots as well as plenty of iguanas, and we’re all sun-kissed and exhausted by the time we’re back on the ship with just enough time to shower ahead of dinner time.

It feels like I’ve hardly had a moment alone with Miller, but I’m hopeful that’ll come after dinner.

In our cabana.

I skip the dinner drinks since I’m already tired and rum will just put me to bed early, and I go for a lighter dinner so I’m not too full for the cabana shenanigans we’ve affectionately titled ourcabanigans.

It’s near the end of the meal, and I’ve just dug into a delicious lemon tart when Miller leans over and whispers, “I missed you today. Cabanigans?”

I raise my eyebrows. “Now?”

He nods slowly, and I giggle.

“Yep, definitely too full for this lemon tart,” I announce, setting my fork down.

He glances at his empty plate, and he looks around the table. We’re at the adult-kids table with all the brothers again, and this is my favorite group to sit with at dinner. We laugh through the whole meal, and Miller is more relaxed with his parents and mine at another table, which makes me feel more relaxed, too.

He slides his chair back and pushes to a stand, and he pulls my chair back, too, to help me up. He makes a big show of rubbing his stomach. “Stuffed after that amazing meal. We’re just going to head to the promenade. See you all around,” he says, and we take off before anyone asks any questions.

I’m already kissing his neck before he even gets the privacy shade down on our cabana, and I have no idea what the hell sort of magic is in this thing, but it’s the exact right combination to make me horny as hell.

I slide down into the pillows the second he has the shade tied into place. He moves over the top of me and bucks his hips against mine as his lips drop to my neck.

“God, I missed you today,” he says. He kisses me.

“We were together all day,” I remind him between kisses.

“Not like this,” he says, and his tongue starts to batter mine as his hips rock wildly against me.

We didn’t get a chance to have sex last night here in this cabana since we were interrupted, and then we were out late with an early wake-up call.

We haven’tbeen togethersince I found out that he’s been in love with me since high school.

And there’s something different between us. It’s a new intimacy, a new understanding that wasn’t there before. We’re closer and more connected than we’ve ever been, and it’s downright sexy.

He backs up and pulls the top of my dress down so my breasts are exposed, and he dives face-first into them, sucking my nipples into his mouth as my hips seek out his for some friction and the ache between my legs grows unbearable.
