We came to our first red light, and I took the opportunity to speak my peace. I lifted my shield and said, “I love this shit, baby!”
“Now you see why I can’t give this shit up yet.”
“I do, baby. I love you.”
“Ha, I know, Mama. The feelings are mutual.”
My baby drove me around for the next thirty minutes allowing me to enjoy the breeze. When it comes to loving me, he was going to do it out loud. We had a hell of a hiccup, but that msn came to me and settled shit. If it wasn’t for him, I probably would’ve been emotionally unstable and spiraling out of control.
As much as I wanted to be a woman of independence, I was depending on him. Depending on him for protection and security and since the first day I fucked that nigga, he’s done it. With the love of him behind me, I swear I felt invincible. I knew for a fact I could be Onyx and not have to worry about shit else because he had me.
Epilogue
ZINC
Bullets. That’s what a nigga was sweating.Real shit.I ain’t know what the hell to do right now. Onyx was bent over on the edge of the bed, clutching her stomach as if she was trying to hold her insides in. She’d been having contractions for the last hour. She swore they were five minutes apart. That meant she was in full active labor. I took a Lamaze class. I also took notes on a lot of other shit, but all that bullshit flew out the window the second she shot up out of her sleep damn near screaming.
“Zinc, what the hell you doing?” she questioned breathless.
“The fuck it look like. I’m trying to find yo’ bag and the baby’s, too. Where the fuck is it?” I was damn near spinning in circles, only for her to point to the floor.
Looking down, right by my feet, sat the bags I’d been stressing over for the past ten minutes. They’d been staring at my Black ass the whole time. A nigga was losing his shit in this muthafucka.
“Did you call KoKo?”
“Her and bruh was the first people I called when you started all that screaming and shit. They gon’ meet us at the hospital. You ready?” She nodded and started taking small steps in my direction.
“Bet! Let’s go!” I snatched the bags up and was out the door.
“Nahmari. Why the fuck would you leave me behind?” she yelled.
“Shit. My bad, baby,” I said running back to her. She held onto me as I assisted her through the crib.
My baby was no longer in that condo. She said move her into a house and that was exactly what the fuck I did. It was a one story, four-bedroom home that resided in Dean Creek. She made this shit a home for me, and I cherished that shit every day. Having a grounded woman that valued you changed a nigga way of thinking for real.
I helped her all the way to the car in the garage. I was so goddamn stressed, I deadass considered throwing her ass on the back of my bike just to cut through traffic quicker. I mean, the fifteen-minute drive would be cut in half fa sho’.
Opening both her door and the back passenger, I threw the bags in the back. “Arrrghhh!” she groaned, clenching the door.
“Come on, mane. You can’t have her in the damn car!”
“It’s not up to me. It’s up to her and she acting like she ready.”
“Aye. Daddy baby, stall me out. I’m gon’ get yo’ mama there as quick as I can. Please don’t mess up Daddy seats.” I was pleading like a muthafucka. My seats were custom, and I wasn’t trying to have pussy juice and shit all on them.
I was able to get her in the passenger seat after the contraction subsided. Hitting the button to raise the garage, I went to round the car when I noticed the whole crew out front waiting on us. I couldn’t fake it if it wanted to. A nigga heart smiled for real. Every one of my brothers was revving’ up their bikes, dressed in all black, but with pink ribbons tied to their handlebars.Pink fucking ribbons. My brothers were the hardestniggas in the city, but they showed up for their niece, looking like some gangsta ass Cupids.
I ain’t got much blood family, but who the fuck needed that when your crew solid like cement?
I flashed my lights once, and they took off. BMG was ‘bout to block intersections, stop cars, and whatever else was necessary to make sure the trip to the hospital was a clear one. I respected that shit to the fullest. It made me feel like I didn’t have to ever question their loyalty.
Pulling into the ER roundabout, I parked and hopped out damn near sprinting to Onyx side. She was still going through her contractions, but she was handling them a lil’ better now. I grabbed the first wheelchair I seen and rushed her inside.
“Aye, my wife getting ready to have my daughter. Do something!” I yelled as soon as we crossed that threshold.
The staff moved faster than lightening getting her up to the maternity ward and situated in her room. I followed her every step of the way only for them folk to come right back in moments later. She was fully dilated and ready to push. This shit was moving so goddamn fast I could barely keep up.
However, I thugged that shit out and stood by my woman. She looked like she was in pain the second she started to push, and I was ready to rock somebody in they shit. I didn’t understand why the fuck she was yelling out in agony like that.
