“That sounds fun.”

“Bring your swimsuit. I’m tired of swimming alone.”

Alexis gave him a coy smile. “What’s someone as famous as Owen Hadley doing swimming by himself?”

“I don’t know. But I think we should change that.”

“I’m game.” Alexis smiled at him again. “You know, all you would have to do is let people know you want a pool party, and your place would be flooded with people within a couple of hours.”

“That’s probably true. But I prefer smaller, intimate gatherings.”

“You know Chase and Lauren would be there.”

“Well, the wedding is coming up soon. Maybe we should put together a pool barbecue for the wedding party.”

“Is that what you were planning for tomorrow.”

“No, I was thinking tomorrow could just be the two of us.”

“Oh.”

The waitress came back with their drinks and set them on their table.

Owen took a sip of his lemon water. “As long as that’s something you’re comfortable with.”

“No,” Alexis blurted. “I’m fine with it. I just wasn’t sure.”

“I don’t know if you’ve guessed this by now or not, but I like you, Alexis.”

Her cheeks pinked, and she looked at him through lowered lashes. “I had my suspicions. But I have to say, I don’t know why.”

“You’re beautiful, and you’re real. I’m surrounded by so many fake people. Being around someone who genuinely cares for others is refreshing. When I go out into society in Hollywood, everyone is social climbing. Everything is about status there. You’re not like that.”

“Wow. That’s a nice thing to say.” Alexis’s blush deepened. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Thanks for putting up with me.”

“Putting up with you? You’re Owen Hadley. I’m lucky you’re even talking to me.”

“You don’t need to think about me like that. I’m just me. Underneath all the photoshopping and airbrushing, I’m just a regular guy.”

“Okay, regular guy, tell me, what’s your favorite color?”

“Blue. What’s yours?”

“Ooh. That’s a tough one. I don’t know if I can pick just one. But I love bright colors.”

“I’ve noticed that. Your bakery is decorated in bright colors. And the couch at your place is that nice bright blue.”

“Yes, the couch that Chase picked out for me. He knows me well.”

“You wear a lot of bright colors too.”

“I figure, so much of the world is dull and muted. Why not brighten it up?”

“I like that.”

“Thank you.”
