“A reporter, huh?”

Tessa gave him a knowing smile. “The bane of your existence, right?”

“Nah, they’re not so bad. You just have to know how to wear a ball cap and sunglasses when you go out.”

Tessa laughed. “Alexis was just telling me she’s starting to learn how to dodge reporters.”

“Oh yeah?” He looked over at Alexis.

“Chase had them after him while he was staying with me, and I had some following me and asking me some questions for a while after that.”

Owen smiled and shook his head. “He should have known better than to stay with you.”

“You’re not staying with your mom while you’re in town?” Alexis asked.

“Nope. I got my own place for the next month. I figured I’d be busy with wedding preparations with Chase anyway. Remember the old Tate House Bed-and-Breakfast?”

“The one right off of Main Street they recently fixed up?” Alexis asked.

“Yep. When I was a kid, I used to imagine I was wealthy enough to stay there.” Now he’d stayed at luxury hotels across the planet. But there was something so charming about the little bed-and-breakfast he’d dreamed of as a kid.

“I didn’t realize it was a bed-and-breakfast again,” Tessa said.

“I found it on Airbnb, and I couldn’t resist the place. I convinced the owner to clear out the month for me.” He didn’t mention that he’d offered the owner a much higher price than what was listed. “I rented the entire thing.”

“Really?” Alexis asked. “That’s actually pretty cool.”

“I think so too.”

“What’s it like in there?” Alexis asked.

“The owner kept a lot of the original historical charm of the place, but it has all the modern conveniences: updated electrical, plumbing, appliances, and Wi-Fi. The best part is the pool in the back yard. I’m even more pleased with it in person than I was when I looked at the pictures online. It’s way more space than I need, but it gives me plenty of room to entertain, and I couldn’t resist the pool.”

“When did you get here?” Tessa asked.

“Last night.”

“Nice,” Tessa said.

“It’s like staying at a resort, minus the room service,” Owen said.

“That’s what takeout is for,” Tessa said.

“You don’t have any movies coming up?” Alexis asked.

“Not until after the wedding.”

“Speaking of the wedding, did you ever see Chase and Lauren coming?” Alexis asked.

“Honestly? Not at all. I thought Chase would be single for life.”

“That seems to be a family theme,” Alexis said.

“You’ve never been in a relationship?”

“Nope.”

This surprised Owen. He would have thought Alexis would have had a few relationships by now. She was beautiful enough to get any guy she wanted.
