He looked her straight in the eye. “I’m serious.”
“Really?”
“Of course. You were gorgeous. You still are.”
“Let’s face it, you and I both know I was fat back then.”
Owen stared into the crackling fire and then looked at Alexis, pushing her hair back from her face. “You’re beautiful both ways.”
Alexis’s eyes softened. “You’re an incredible man, Owen Hadley.” She leaned toward him and kissed him softly on the lips. He savored the feel of her lips on his. They were soft and malleable, and she tasted like perfection.
“I could get used to this,” Owen admitted.
“I feel like I’m playing with fire,” Alexis said. “I feel so drawn to you, but I know it’s a bad idea.”
“I don’t want to do anything to hurt you, Alexis.”
“Then we need to slow this thing down, whatever it is that’s forming between us.”
“You’re probably right. But I don’t want to. I like being with you like this. It’s nice. It feels easy to be with you.”
“That’s exactly how I feel too. This feels amazing.” She put her head on his shoulder, and he wrapped his arm around her.
“Do we need to figure out all the answers tonight?” Owen asked. “Can’t we just enjoy each other’s company for a little while?”
“Maybe I’m thinking too hard about all of this,” Alexis conceded.
“Just relax, and watch the fire.” He pulled her closer to him, and he sighed because she felt so good. Tonight, he wasn’t going to think about anything but the beautiful woman next to him and how long he’d wanted her with him like this.
