“Have you made a lot of wedding cakes?”

“More than I can count.”

“What is your favorite part of running a bakery?” Owen asked.

“Coming up with new recipes and watching the customers’ reactions when they try them, and it’s a big hit.”

“That’s cool. I like seeing the reactions of my customers too. So far, I’ve had a great response. But I’ve had a few complaints, too. Being a celebrity doesn’t make you immune to criticism.”

“Some people can be so mean too. I’m assuming a lot of it is tied to jealousy.”

“You’re probably right. I’ve had to grow a thick skin over the years.”

“Do you get cyberbullied a lot?”

“If I do, I don’t hear about it. My agent deals with a lot of that for me.”

Alexis smiled at Owen. “I love learning about your life. I want to hear all about it.” She scooted in closer to him. “Thank you for inviting me to lunch. This is really good.”

“You’re welcome. For both the food and to hear about my life. I’m happy to share it with you.”

“Thank you for talking to Dave about pulling the recipes down. That means a lot to me.”

“I hope you understand that I’m on your side. I don’t want to hurt you. Ever.”

“It’s taking me some time to learn to trust. But I’m getting there.” Alexis felt her heart warming in her chest when she thought about this man and how important he was becoming to her. She was very much in danger of falling for him, and she wasn’t sure she wanted to stop it anymore.
