Chapter 12
Alexis arrived at the spa right when Lauren and the other bridesmaids were climbing out of Lauren’s car.
“What’s up, ladies?” Alexis cheered. “Who’s ready for a spa day?”
“Alexis!” Sariah said, hugging her. “I feel like we never hang out anymore.”
“That’s because we don’t,” Alexis said. “I’m always working.”
“You and me both. I feel like I live at the jewelry store.” Sariah had taken over her grandfather’s jewelry store.
“Alexis!” Carrington hugged her. “What’s this I hear about you dating Owen Hadley?” Carrington ran the art museum, and she lived with her father in a darling cottage on the edge of town. Her father was a phenomenal painter; his work had been sold all over the world.
Alexis looked over to Tessa. “Did you tell her?”
Tessa shrugged. “I might have said something.”
“I wouldn’t exactly say I’m dating him, but there’s something there.”
“Something, huh?” Carrington wiggled her eyebrows at Alexis.
“It’s still very new. We haven’t exactly defined it yet.”
Lauren looped her arm through Carrington’s. “Are you ladies ready to be pampered?”
“Beyond ready,” Alexis said, walking with the girls toward the salon.
“I’m with you, girl,” Sariah said. “I’ve been looking forward to this all week.”
“Same here,” Tessa said. “It’s been forever since I did something nice for myself.”
“We need to do this more often,” Alexis said.
“Maybe we can.” Carrington smiled at her, pushing open the door. “When it’s your turn to get married.”
“Married?” Alexis raised her eyebrows. “I have a feeling that won’t be happening anytime soon.”
There was a woman at the counter ahead of them, so they stood by the front door. “What about you and Owen?” Tessa asked. “Don’t you see that happening one day?”
“Owen?” Alexis squeaked. “I don’t think so. We have very different lives. And he lives on the other side of the country.”
Lauren twisted her mouth into a knowing smile. “That’s what I thought when Chase and I started dating.”
“That doesn’t mean Owen’s going to just magically uproot to Maple Creek. It’s not exactly like they’re filming blockbuster films here.”
“Yeah, but you could move to LA,” Tessa said.
Lauren stepped up to the counter and checked them in for the day.
“And give up everything I’ve worked for at my bakery?” Alexis shook her head. “Not going to happen.”
“You’re just so cute with Owen. I would hate to see that not work out,” Tessa said.
“I agree,” Sariah said. “I say go for it.”
“There’s nothing to go for. For all I know, Owen just wants a fling.”
“I don’t think so,” Sariah said. “I know Owen. He’s not that kind of guy.”
