“I don’t want that either.”
Owen bent down and kissed Alexis, and she thought her heart was going to burst inside her.
“Should we go back inside?” Owen asked.
“Sure.” They stood up and returned to the building.
The reception started in the ballroom, and dinner was served. Owen had the food catered in from Hadley’s as a gift to Lauren and Chase. Alexis took a seat at the table with the other bridesmaids and groomsmen. She sat next to Tessa, and a few minutes later, Owen came up to the table.
“Sorry guys, I was just giving some instructions to the employees who came here from Hadley’s.”
Tessa stood up. “You can have my chair. You probably want to sit next to Alexis.”
Owen looked down at Alexis, and she smiled at him. “Have a seat.”
The evening passed joyfully with a delicious dinner, and Alexis felt much better knowing that she’d been able to talk to Owen about her feelings. Alexis and Owen both gave toasts, and then they had dancing. Alexis danced with Owen for the first time, and she was pleased with how natural it felt to be in his arms in the middle of the dance floor. The night was going by much better than she’d hoped when she’d arrived earlier that day.
Aubrey announced that it was time to cut the cake, and Alexis headed over to the table to make sure everything was perfect for them. Lauren cut slices for her and Chase and set them on the plates Aubrey provided. Then Lauren smashed her piece into Chase’s face, and Chase smashed his right back into Lauren’s. They burst out laughing, and Aubrey handed them napkins. A Whitmore House employee cut the rest of the bottom layer of the cake for the guests.
At the end of the night, Lauren announced that she was about to toss the bouquet. Alexis and the other bridesmaids stood and gathered around the spot where Lauren was preparing to toss her bouquet. “Is everyone ready?” Lauren called over her shoulder. She glanced back at them. “Okay, here I go!”
Lauren threw the bouquet back, and it landed right in Alexis’s hands.
