“I want whatever is best for you, Alexis—whatever is best for your bakery and your career. Just realize that sometimes there are answers out there that you may not have thought of yet. Miracles happen every day.”
“That’s beautiful, Owen.” Alexis gazed up into his eyes. She really was a beautiful woman. “I think I just fell even more in love with you.”
“Good.” He bent down and kissed her. “Because I’m falling deeper in love with you by the second.”
“I have a feeling this is something that will be ongoing for us.”
“I sure hope so,” Owen said.
They mingled with the other guests, and Owen introduced her to some of the people he knew from Hollywood. Before the night was over, a celebrity wedding magazine approached Alexis and told her they would love to feature her in one of their next issues. Alexis was swarmed by reporters, and she took a couple more interviews right there at the wedding reception.
Owen stood from the sidelines and watched as Alexis enjoyed her moment in the spotlight. He had a feeling she would be spending a lot more time there—the rest of her life if he had anything to do with it.
“Hey,” Benson said, sidling up next to him. “That was pretty awesome, what you just did for Alexis.” He gave Owen a broad smile. “I have a feeling she’ll be thanking you for it later, if you know what I mean.”
“Whether she does or not isn’t why I did it,” Owen said. “She deserves that and more. I only wish I’d seen that sooner.”
“You’ve gotten all soft.”
“That’s what happens when you fall in love. Don’t worry, you’ll probably figure that out sooner or later.”
“I don’t think so. I’ll probably die a bachelor.”
“I doubt that.”
“That girl’s changed you.”
“She sure has. And I’ll thank her for it every day.”
Alexis turned away from the reporters interviewing her and came across the room to him.
“I’ll talk to you later, Benson. I’m going to go speak with Alexis.”
