Chapter 16
“Well, that wasn’t so bad, was it?” Owen asked when he reached Alexis near the table with the wedding cake.
“Were you watching me getting those interviews?” Alexis asked. “I always feel so awkward talking to them, like I’m going to say the wrong thing.”
“I still feel that way, and I’ve been doing it for the past ten years.”
“You mean it doesn’t get any easier?”
“Maybe a little.”
“I thought you said you were used to it by now.”
“That’s the paparazzi. Interviews are still a little rough for me.”
“I’ve seen you on some interviews. You seem so laid back.”
“You forget that I’m an actor, a really good one.”
Alexis giggled. “I guess I can see that.”
“What were you going to tell me earlier?” Owen asked. “You were going to say something before you started getting bombarded with all the people wanting to hire you.”
“Oh, right. I was going to tell you that I realized something while I was up there watching Chase and Lauren getting married.”
“And what was that?”
“I want what they have. I want to be standing at the altar with someone one day.”
“Are you proposing to me?” Owen asked.
Alexis gave a little laugh. “Not today. But I was never sure before today that marriage was in the cards for me.”
“And do you have a particular guy in mind?” Owen teased.
“It depends on him and how he feels, but I have an idea of someone I’d like to spend the rest of my life with. But I’d like to see how things go with him for a while first.”
“I think he feels the same way.”
“Does he?” Alexis looked up into Owen’s eyes.
“He does.” Owen stared at her for a moment. “So, how does this work?”
“I was getting to that part. I started thinking about what life will be like with you back in California, but that was before I got bombarded with people hiring me to bake cakes in California. I’m starting to think that I should open up another bakery on the other side of the country.”
Owen’s brows rose. “You’re thinking about setting up a bakery in LA?”
She could tell he was getting excited about the idea. “Yes. This is completely out of character for me, and don’t start getting any ideas, but I was wondering if you would be interested in opening the bakery with me? I’m a little short on funds, and I happen to know you’re loaded.” She winked at him.
“I’ll have to give it some thought.”
Alexis froze.
“I’m just kidding. Of course, I will. I never thought you’d ask.”
“I never thought I would either.”
“So does this mean you’re thinking about moving to LA?”
