Chapter 6

Benson took Tessa to Hadley’s after they bought each other their rings. They were seated after a short wait, and the server came and took their drink orders.

“Hey!” A cheerful voice caught Tessa’s attention.

She looked up to see Aubrey Wheaton approaching their booth.

“What are you two doing here together looking all cozy?”

“Just a nice dinner out,” Benson said.

“Like, a date?” Aubrey asked, anticipation dripping from her voice.

“Yes,” Benson said. “Like a date.”

“Ooh!” Aubrey said. “I like it.”

“I wanted to talk to you about something,” Benson said.

“Sure, what’s that?”

“Do you have any availability for the Whitmore House for a July wedding?”

“A wedding?” Aubrey’s voice sounded perkier than usual, if that was even possible. “Who’s getting married?”

“We are,” Tessa said.

Aubrey’s jaw dropped open. “No way! You two are getting married?”

“I’d show you the ring, but it’s getting sized right now,” Tessa said.

“This is so exciting! I can’t believe it! How did I not know you were even dating?”

“We were keeping it quiet,” Benson said.

“Unfortunately, the Whitmore House is all booked up for July. The summer is our busiest season for weddings. Maybe you could ask Carrington if she has any openings at the art museum for a wedding.”

“What a disappointment!” Tessa said. “I just thought we’d be able to squeeze in.”

“Sorry. You’d have to plan a bit more to get a spot with us. We fill up pretty quick.”

“I’m sure we’ll be able to figure something out,” Benson said. “Maybe one of the churches in town will have room.”

“I just always dreamed of having my wedding at the Whitmore House,” Tessa said.

“I wish there was some way I could help!” Aubrey said. “Have you already picked out your dress?”

“No. I was planning to visit Onyx’s shop tomorrow.”

“What about flowers?”

“I was hoping to swing by Layla’s shop after I pick out a dress.”

“The dress is the top priority,” Aubrey said. “You’ll need to get it first so you can have enough time for alterations.”

“Oh, I hadn’t thought about that.”

“Have you chosen your bridesmaids?” Aubrey asked.
