“I won’t be spinning any more donuts. My wild bachelor days are behind me now.”
“Does that mean you’ve learned your lesson?” Tessa asked.
“I don’t know if I’d take it quite that far.”
Tessa gave him a parental look, and he started laughing.
“I was just kidding! Don’t look at me like that. I’ve learned my lesson and then some.”
“We haven’t even gotten married yet. Just wait.”
“Are you saying I’m going to learn my lesson even more after we get married?”
“That’s the point of all this, isn’t it? So I can keep you in line?”
She raised her eyebrows. “In theory.”
“Did I just hear you two say you’re getting married?” Lauren stopped by their booth.
“That’s right,” Benson said.
“What?” Lauren said. “Congratulations!” She hugged Tessa. “I can’t believe it.”
“What’s going on?” Chase came up beside her with little Penny at his side.
“Tessa and Benson are getting married.”
“No kidding!” Chase smiled broadly. “So you were able to convince her, after all?”
Tessa looked over to Benson in confusion. Did Chase know their marriage was fake?
“It wasn’t that hard,” Benson said. “She took one look at me and swooned at my feet.”
“You’re full of it,” Tessa said. “You should have seen him. He was practically begging.”
Chase whooped. “I bet he was! I wish I could have seen that.”
“I was wondering if you’d like to be one of my groomsmen,” Benson asked.
“I’d love to! When’s the wedding?” Chase asked.
“We’re still trying to figure out an exact date, but it’ll be sometime in July.”
“I’ll be around. Just let me know the day and time, and I’ll be there.”
“Lauren,” Tessa said. “I’d love it if you could be one of my bridesmaids too.”
“Of course!”
“And I want you to do my hair too.”
“You know nothing would make me happier,” Lauren said. “We’ll have to throw you a shower.”
“That’s so sweet of you. But I’m not sure we need anything. Benson and I already have our households set up. From what I understand, he has a pretty nice place in New York.”
“Don’t listen to a word she’s saying. Throw her the shower. I don’t have all that much. My place is a bachelor pad. It still needs a woman’s touch. Go get all her friends to buy her casserole dishes.”
“You’re under the assumption that I’m going to cook you casseroles. You’ll most likely be eating takeout.”
