Chapter 7
“The art museum is booked up all through July,” Tessa said. They were driving to hang out with Chase and Lauren.
“What are you going to do?” Benson asked.
“Maybe Lauren and Chase would let us get married at their place.”
“I bet they would.”
“I had my heart set on the Whitmore House, though.”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. It just makes me sad.”
“We might be able to push the wedding back to August,” Benson suggested. “It would be cutting it close with my training schedule though.”
“I’ll call Aubrey and see if she has anything available then.”
Benson pulled up to a stoplight. He glanced over to see Tessa putting the phone up to her ear. She was such a gorgeous woman. The more he spent time with her, the more he saw how beautiful she was on the inside too. She deserved better than him. He wanted to make up for the fact that he couldn’t give her a real marriage in every way that he could.
“Hi, Aubrey,” Tessa said. “I was wondering if you have any availability if we decide to push our wedding back to August.” Tessa paused. “What? Hang on. I’m going to put you on speaker. I’m here in the car with Benson.”
Tessa tapped her phone screen, and Aubrey’s voice came over the speaker. “Hi, Benson!”
“Hey there, Aubrey.”
“I was just telling Tessa that I’m all booked up for August, but I just had a cancellation. I had a bride and groom call off their wedding, and the Whitmore House is now open the second week of July. Think you could swing that?”
“That would be perfect. Though I’m sorry to hear it didn’t work out for that other couple,” Benson said.
“I kind of got the vibe that they weren’t going to work out. It’s most likely for the best,” Aubrey told him.
“Ah, I see.”
“Sometimes people just need to realize it’s not a good idea to get married before they say those vows. Otherwise, it can lead to a lot of misery,” Aubrey said. “Not that I’d know from experience, thank goodness.”
“Let’s get our spot booked for the second week of July. Is it a Saturday?”
“Yep. It’s a Saturday. July tenth.”
Benson glanced over at Tessa. “How does that sound?”
“It sounds perfect.” Tessa smiled at him. She looked happy, and it warmed Benson’s heart.
“Do you think it’ll give you enough time to get your dress ready?” She’d already picked out her dress with Onyx earlier that week. She was just waiting on the alterations now.
“It’ll be cutting it tight.”
“Maybe we can put a rush on the alterations, like pay an extra fee or something.”
“That’s a great idea,” Tessa said.
“You should do that,” Aubrey said. “So should I put you two down for July tenth then?”
“Definitely,” Benson said. “I’m driving to Chase’s house right now, but when I get there, I’ll call you back with my credit card information.”
“That sounds great. I look forward to hearing from you.” Aubrey ended the call.
