“Doritos.”

“Me too.”

“You can learn a lot about a person just by going grocery shopping with them,” Benson said.

“That’s true. If you went shopping with me, you would learn that I don’t eat very healthy at all.”

Benson laughed. “Same here. Although my coach gets onto me for it. I’ve had to change my ways for my career.”

“Have you thought about bringing in a private chef?” Tessa asked.

“I’ve toyed with the idea. I do have some pretty specific dietary needs. I have to make sure I’m getting enough healthy fats and proteins.”

Their sailing adventure ended, and they went back to the room. It had gotten dark. Benson flipped on the lights in their room, and a few lanterns lit up on the side of the wall. “This is cozy,” he said.

“I’m going to try out the pool,” Tessa told him. She grabbed her navy blue bikini and went into the bathroom to change. When she came out, Benson took a turn in the bathroom, getting changed into his swim trunks. Tessa stepped into the water. It was refreshing and just the right temperature. Benson came out of the bathroom and joined her.

“Now can we talk about why you don’t want to kiss in private?” Tessa asked.

“If you want to.”

“I do.”

“Does it have something to do with Megan?”

Benson gave her a startled look. “You know about Megan?”

“Mrs. Wheaton said something to me about her at the wedding.”

His face paled. “How would she know anything about what happened with Megan?”

“She said she heard some of your wedding guests talking about it. I don’t think they knew she was listening in.”

“That old busybody!” Benson growled. “I wish she would just leave well enough alone.”

“You know she can’t do that. She always has to meddle. She thinks she’s helping.”

“Well, she wasn’t helping this time.”

“Were you planning on telling me about Megan?”

Benson looked away from her, and she could see a muscle twitching in his jaw. “I don’t know.” He sighed. “Maybe.”

“Maybe?”

“Okay. Eventually.”

“I’m not trying to stick my nose where it doesn’t belong, but I think if we’re going to be married, this is information I should know about.”

“How much did she tell you?”

“She said that Megan abandoned you at the altar.”

“That’s pretty much the worst of it,” he grumbled.

“I figured as much. When did it happen?”

“Right after I signed my contract with the Giants.”
