“It’s okay. I totally get it. I don’t mind meeting you there. Thanks for asking me. I’m looking forward to it, and I’m completely okay with keeping it quiet. I don’t want Jackilyn to know about it either.”

It was just one date. For all I knew, it wouldn’t even go well, and that would be the end of it. Jackilyn may never even find out about it. I had no guarantee Jessilyn would like me enough to go out with me a second time.

I wondered if Jackilyn would actually be hurt by the fact that I was taking her sister on a date or if she would only be angry that she didn’t have control of my emotions. That I wasn’t groveling, begging her to take me back.

I could have picked any girl in school to ask on a date, but I chose the twin of the most difficult girl in school, who also happened to be my ex. I was either crazy or stupid.

I said goodbye to Jessilyn and headed to work. I cranked up the music in my car and sang along. I felt like I was on top of the world. I had a date with a gorgeous girl. I was crushing hard. I walked into Uncle Ryan’s shop, still singing the song from my car.

“Someone’s happy today,” he commented when he saw me.

“My day is going extremely well.”

He grinned a devilish smile. “It’s no wonder, with all that kissing you’ve been doing for drama.”

I felt a blush creep over my face. “Maybe I shouldn’t have told you about that.”

His eyes lit up. “It’s too late now. I’m guessing from the look on your face that the kissing went well.”

My cheeks flamed even worse. “No comment.” I couldn’t fight the smile threatening to take over.

“So you like her!”

My face betrayed me, and a huge smile took over.

“I thought you said she was your ex-girlfriend’s twin.”

“She is.”

“Aren’t you concerned that will cause some issues?”

I grinned at him. “You’d better believe it. That’s why we’re keeping it under wraps.”

Uncle Ryan shook his head. “As fun as this might be, I have a feeling this is going to blow up in your face.”

“Yeah . . . I’ve been having that feeling too. But I might as well enjoy it while it lasts. I have to kiss her for class anyway. It just so happens that I really enjoy it.”

Uncle Ryan howled with laughter. “A man after my own heart. I have to say, I’d be doing the same thing if I were in your shoes.”

Of course, he would. Uncle Ryan loved women. He was the biggest flirt I knew. He was also great at giving advice. Sometimes, I wondered how he could be brothers with my dad.

“So what do I do if this blows up in my face?”

“Ooh. That’s a tough one.” Uncle Ryan rubbed his jaw. “A lot of that depends on how Jessilyn feels about all of this. If she wants to be with you regardless of how her sister feels, then you’re golden. But she may decide the drama isn’t worth it, and you may end up losing out.”

I had no idea what Jessilyn would do. She didn’t seem like the type to back down from a fight, but would she consider a relationship with me worth the trouble? I was getting ahead of myself. I didn’t even know if I wanted this to turn into a relationship. I had no idea where it was headed.

Iarrived at Skippy’s right at six. Jessilyn wasn’t there yet, so I hung out in my car until I saw her black Honda Civic pull up. It was a nice little car. Only a few years old. Mine looked like a piece of junk next to hers.

She stepped out of her car, and I got out of mine.

“Sorry I’m late.”

“It’s no problem.”

“I feel really bad. I’m awful about showing up to stuff on time.”
