“Oh, I just wanted to stop by and surprise him with some of his old stuff,” she blurted. It wasn’t exactly the truth, but it would have to do. She’d mentioned that it was a surprise so Mrs. Wheaton wouldn’t bother repeating it to him.

“That’s nice of you, considering how rough that marriage was for you,” Mrs. Wheaton said. Of course, she knew all the juicy details. Aubrey must have told her.

“I’m trying to put the past behind me. You know, be the bigger person.” Yeah right. She was likely going to the bad place for being a big, fat liar.

Her gaze collided with Jackson’s, and he gave her an encouraging smile. “Well, thank you for the information. I’ve got to get back to work now.”

“Okay, you take care, sweetie.”

“Thanks. You too.” She hung up the phone and blew out a huge breath. “That went better than I expected.”

“I can’t believe she knew where he lived.”

“Not the hugest surprise. The woman talks to everyone.”

“So what now?”

“I had an idea, actually.” Sully tapped her pen against the notebook. “If all goes well, Mason will be out of here in no time.”
