“Mason’s not as smart as he thinks,” Jackson said. “You still have the footage of him disabling your cameras. That’s saved to the cloud. He can’t access that unless he knows your username and password.”
Blue lights flashed outside Sully’s sliding glass door that led to her balcony.
“Looks like the police are here,” Jackson said.
When they knocked, Sully answered the door and Will Vance, the police chief, came inside, followed by two other officers.
“As soon as I heard you were in trouble, I decided to come myself. You should have told me you were being harassed by your ex.”
“I didn’t think I had enough proof to do anything about it.” Sully had her arms wrapped around herself protectively. Jackson stepped closer to her and embraced her in a side hug.
The other two officers surrounded Mason, while Will took down Sully and Jackson’s statements. Soon, Mason was in handcuffs, and the two cops were leading him out of Sully’s house.
“We have footage of him disabling the cameras too,” Sully said, showing Will her phone.
He took her phone and studied the footage. “Can you send me this in an email?” He pulled a card out of his pocket and handed it to her. “This is my information.”
“Thanks.” She studied the card.
“From what you told me before, it sounds like he’s been stalking you,” Will said.
“I’m pretty sure he broke into my place and left a note on my pillow too.”
Will’s brow furrowed. “Do you still have the note?”
“Yes, it’s in my bedroom. I’ll go get it.” She disappeared around the corner.
Will shook his head. “This reminds me of what my wife, Layla, went through just before we got together. There was a guy in town stalking her. We finally caught the creep. He’s behind bars now.”
“I have a feeling that’s where Mason’s headed too,” Jackson said.
“There’s a good chance of it,” Will admitted.
Sully came back out with the note.
Will took it from her and looked it over. “He was smart to type it. There’s no way to prove it was him, but we’ll take it in as evidence anyway. It can’t hurt.”
“Thank you so much,” Sully said, leaning into Jackson.
She felt amazing and warm beside him, and he pulled her closer to him. He was so glad she was safe now. He’d been so terrified when he’d seen that look on her face when she’d opened the door. Thank goodness he’d forgotten his phone. Who knew what Mason would have done if he’d just gone home?
“Well, I’ll get out of your hair. It’s getting pretty late, and I’m sure you both want some sleep.” Will tucked his phone into his pocket.
Sully showed him to the door. When it was closed, she turned to Jackson. “Is it okay if we talk a minute?”
“Of course.” He sat on the couch. He wasn’t really ready to say goodnight to her after what she’d just been through. He was pretty shaken up from seeing her in that kind of trouble.
She plopped down next to him. Immediately, the pull to be with him, to touch him, was so strong. She gazed into his eyes, and her lips parted.
He bent down and pressed his lips to her with his hands cupping her cheeks.
This was where she belonged. Right here with Jackson.
“I thought I might lose you,” he said between kisses. “Like I lost Tyson.” He kissed her more fervently, like he was trying to hold on to her.
“But I’m safe now,” she said. She buried her hands in his hair, and he kissed again and again.
“I love you, Sully. I know I’ve messed up in the past, but I’m trying to be better.”
