Reluctantly, Caden followed the sheriff and his father out to the police car. He had never ridden in one before, and he wasn’t sure how he felt about getting into one now.
“Hey, at least we’ll be together,” his father slurred as the deputy helped him into the car.
“Yeah, sure.” Caden slid in next to his father and watched as a few of their neighbors came out to watch.
It wasn’t long after his father went to jail that he got into a fight with another inmate and was stabbed to death by a homemade blade. It was his father’s hot temper that ended up being the end of him.
Caden remained with Mrs. Warden until he turned eighteen. After that, he got his own place and started working with Marcus and the Shadow Vipers.

CADEN
It had been about a week since the “incident.” Caden hadn’t spoken much to Lucas. He’d been actively trying to avoid the guy for fear that he might have another reaction or inappropriate thought involving him and rubbing his face all over the boy’s body.
Not that he wanted to be creepy and make love to the guy’s skin, more like he was curious as to how his soft skin might feel… rubbing up against his…
Was it soft? Would Cade’s body feel coarse against his skin? Would Lucas tremble when Caden ran his fingers slowly down the smooth curve of his back?
He wasn’t sure what it all meant.
When Cade was with women, he often enjoyed lying with them and caressing their soft skin after fucking their brains out.
Yes, he fucked them rough and hard and loved the way they cried out his name just before they came. But once it was all over, he liked to hold them close to his chest and feel their tender skin up against his body.
Something about their silky, smooth skin and the beating of their heart calmed him and took him to a place where he couldbe at peace. That peaceful feeling never lasted long, but for those first fifteen minutes or so, he felt like all his troubles had faded.
Cade never mentioned this to any of the guys in the crew. Showing tenderness or anything that resembled romance was looked down upon. Guys in the gang were supposed to be tough. They didn’t discuss feelings or emotions or how much they enjoyed a good cuddle after an intense boning session.
That all remained unspoken.
These new thoughts were his to unpack and figure out all on his own.
Whatever. He didn’t need anyone’s help.
“Hey, Alexis, how’s it going?” Caden asked, taking a seat on one of the barstools.
“Hey, Cade. Not much. I’m low-key freaking out here.”
“What? Why?”
“My dance instructor had to cancel on me. Apparently, her mother fell sick, so she’s off to Texas to go and be with her.”
“And… you’re upset that she’s seeing her sick mother? That sounds mean, even for you.” Cade gave a chuckle, knowing it had to be more than just that. Alexis was tough, but she wasn’t evil.
The blonde-and-pink bombshell gave Cade the middle finger.
“It was for my wedding. I hired a professional to teach me how to dance. Then I thought I could do a little performance at the ceremony for Jake. You know, show him how much I love him.”
Alexis and Jake had recently gotten engaged, and half the town was invited to their wedding. It was in a couple of months, and Caden was still trying to find a way to avoid attending.
Stomach flu? Leprosy? Cat stuck in a tree?
He knew he was being a jerk, and there was no way in hell Marcus would allow him to miss young Alexis’s nuptials. While they might not be related, everyone in the gang was treatedas family. So, when one of them got married, they all happily attended—even if deep down, the thought of watching two people profess their love to one another made him want to take a drill to his eyes.
“Can’t you hire someone else?” Caden asked, wondering why this was such a big deal. There must be loads of people around who know how to slow dance or do the chicken… whatever it’s called.
He didn’t care much for dancing. Shaking his hips and getting his nut sack all sweaty didn’t exactly sound like a good time.
