“Haha. Fat chance. This butt don’t move like that,” Caden added, giving his butt a little shake.
Lizzy laughed and clasped her hands over her mouth.
“Oh, I’m sure it’s got some awesome moves,” Lucas noted, his cheeks quickly turning a mild shade of pink.
Caden opened his mouth but quickly closed it again, seeming to decide against voicing whatever dirty comment had surely just sprung to mind in that mischievous head of his.
They both stared at each other as Caden fought his inner devil. It appeared thatDaddy Cadenhad rules when it came to acting appropriately around his daughter.
Seeing this side of Cade was extremely sexy.Fuck, he was a goner.
The butterflies fluttering in Lucas’s stomach were in full party mode. Damn, he hadn’t felt this nervous about a hangout since he was a teenager going on his first date with a boy.
Relax. You’re just watching a sing-along with a dude and his little girl. This is not a date. He didn’t ask you out, don’t forget.
No, but he did insist that he join them today. He wasn’t subtle about it either. What straight man insists on having another dude come and watch a musical with him and his daughter? None.
Caden laid out the second blanket he was carrying and organized himself nice and close to where Lucas was sitting.
The park was starting to fill up—mostly parents with small children and a few curious people who happened to be passing by on their afternoon walk.
A large movie screen and two huge speakers had been set up along the far side of the park, optimizing as much of the space as possible for viewers and patrons selling candy and snacks.
“Hey! Is that?” Lucas asked, pointing at the man connecting the speakers to some additional equipment.
“Yeah, that’s Marcus. He loans out his speakers to the library for these movie nights and sing-alongs.”
Lucas’s head snapped in Caden’s direction.
“You mean you knew about this event already?”
Caden shrugged. “Yeah, he’s been helping out with the event for years. We also do barbecues, toy drives, and even a storytime with Santa, come Christmas. You should see Ace when he’s dressed in his little elf costume. Talk about a feisty little twink.” Caden leaned back on his hands as they chatted.
“Why didn’t you say something the other night?”
“Oh. I wasn’t planning on coming to this event. Sing-alongs are not really my thing.” He straightened up, then leaned in close so that his daughter couldn’t hear. “I do have balls, you know.”
Lucas turned and shook his head. So much toxic masculinity. It was both annoying and a turn-on.
Sometimes, Lucas wondered if he might be fucked in the head.
“And one day, your balls will be big enough to do this!” Lucas stood and reached into a bag he had propped at the side of his blanket. “Hey, Lizzy, how do you feel about dressing up and helping me show your dad how this song is supposed to be sung?”
Lizzy’s eyes went wide as she spotted the large blue wig Lucas was holding out to her.
“Yes!!” she shrieked, tearing the wig from Lucas’s hand and throwing it onto her head lopsided.
Caden laughed.
“Here, let me help.” Lucas straightened out the wig he had happened to find at a thrift shop a few days earlier.
Once she was all fixed and fastened correctly, Lucas pulled out his own bright-pink beehive wig he had found, thankfully, this morning, at the same shop. When he decided to join Cade and his daughter, he ran to the shop early in the morning, hoping to buy another wig. Miraculously, he found the sucker stashed behind a top hat and a Jason hockey mask.
“I like your wig,” a little girl said next to them as she struggled with a thin scarf her mom was trying to fasten to her head.
“Would you like some help, ma’am?” Lucas asked, walking over to the woman sitting next to them.
“Oh, that would be lovely. I’ve seen this once in a movie, but I don’t know how to make it stay up.”
