"I've never been attached to my last name anyway," Noah says, pressing a kiss to the side of my head.
"I'd be honored to have your last name, darlin'." Austin grins at me. "I had thoughts about makin' you Hannah Sullivan, but Austin Beckham has just as nice a ring to it."
"I can't wait to get my new jersey with 'Beckham' on the back in huge letters." Charlie is all smiles as he looks at me.
"I…I don't know what to say. It's kind of hard to wrap my mind around."
"It's simple, reinita. We want to take our omega's last name and be Enzo, Noah, Austin, and Charlie Beckham." Enzo's deep brown eyes are filled with love, and a smile stretches over my face as I take his hand and squeeze.
"I would love that," I tell them. "Pack Beckhamdoeshave a nice ring to it."
My guys take turns wrapping their arms around me and pressing kisses to wherever they can reach, and then the doorbell rings.
"That's probably lunch," Enzo says, standing. "I ordered pizza."
He disappears to grab the food, but right after I send the text to Brody, the bond lights up with surprise, then anger. From Enzo. What happened to make him react like that? I have no idea, but I can tell that my alpha is in distress right now. Jumping up from Noah's lap, I rush down the hall, skidding to a stop when I see his tense back. "I'm just here to see my step-sister." The voice pulls at the edges of my memory, and echoes ofsneers and jabs aimed at me around the holidays filter through my mind.
"Birdie?" I ask, my voice incredulous. Peering around Enzo, I spot my oldest step-sister standing in our doorway, dark brown hair pulled up into a ponytail, her makeup as severe as ever. My omega detests the fact that there is another omega here so soon after bonding my alphas, and I suddenly feel terrible for having Brody come here. "What are you…" I look between her and my alpha. Enzo never met Birdie, why would he know to be angry she's here?
"I told you to never call me that!" she snaps. "It's fucking Elizabeth!"
Enzo turns to me, worry in his eyes. "Lizzie. This…this is Lizzie."
Chapter 43
Enzo
The moment Hannah slid into view, looked at the woman I once thought to be my true scent-match, and called her Birdie, my world flipped on its axis.
Lizzie and Birdie are one of the same. My mind races, flipping back through every instance of Hannah mentioning her estranged step-sister. Doesn't have a pack. Somehow able to support herself without a real job. Almost forty.
What are the odds?
I suppose we would have found out at the preliminary hearing, if Hannah hadn't gone into heat. Maybe I would have had some time to get some answers then too, but right now, staring at the omega who's looking at my mate with such disdain makes me want to slam the door in her face.
"Lizzie. This…this is Lizzie." My words don't sound like my own.
"Wait." Hannah's head whips towards me, eyes wide in shock. "Like…like your scent match, Lizzie?"
"She was never my scent match, reinita, but yes, this isthatLizzie." Even looking at her and scenting her, I know it's true now, that we never had any kind of connection. Her cherry and almond scent is too sweet, it's almost sticky in my nose. There's not even a hint of interest or connection.
Lizzie doesn't even have the decency to look remorseful, she only rolls her eyes.
"You said her last name was Collins?" Hannah frowns, looking between the two of us, worry lining her brow. Is she worried I'll still feel something for her?
"Lizzie Collins doesn't exist," Noah's voice comes up behind us. "But I guess that's because she's actually Elizabeth 'Birdie' Pearson."
"I wanted to reinvent myself when I went to college," Lizzie shrugs, "so I enrolled using my dead mom's maiden name and paid someone to superimpose 'Collins' over 'Pearson' on my transcripts."
How would she have gotten a job with "Lizzie Collins" on her diploma if she never legally changed her name? I shake my head. As curious as I am, I want her gone. Now.
"Listen, Lizzie, I don't know why you came here, but—"
"Lorenzo, I didn't even know that you were Hannah's alpha until you opened the door." Ugh. I completely forgot she used toinsist on calling me my full name. "Now, are you going to invite me in, or are you going to make me stand out here all day?"
"You're not coming in here," Noah growls, coming up next to Hannah and wrapping a protective arm around her. Charlie and Austin sidle up behind them, and Lizzie's eyes light up with interest when they land on my Golden Boy.
"Oh look, Charlie Williams, how you've grown."
