“Okay, good,” I whisper, my eyes falling shut.

But then I hear something moving on the ground I sit up, glaring at Cole as he stretches out on the floor, a pathetic little flat pillow tucked under his head, not even ablanketbeneath him.

He frowns at me. “What?”

“Are you sleeping downthere?”

“Yes! I’m tired too!”

“Oh, you idiot,” I mutter, turning my back to him and scooting across the bed to make room. “Come on.”

“Are you…sure?”

“You have ten seconds before I change my mind,” I grumble, shutting my eyes again, feeling very huffy and frustrated at him for being so stupid. Does he actually think I’m going to make him sleep on thefloorwhen we’ve both spent the night saving people’s lives?

Cole laughs softly, and the bed creaks, dipping down towards him as he climbs in next to me.

“Night, Nadia,” he murmurs, settling in, his arm and shoulder brushing lightly against my back.

“Shh!” I grumble. “Sleep!”

He laughs again, but I barely hear it as I drift off.

Chapter 48 – Change of Clothes

Nadia

I wake upsowarm and cozy, wrapped up warm and tight, thesoftestpillow beneath my head. Now, if only that stupidtappingwould go away.

“Captain?” A voice calls, soft and hesitant. “Sir?”

“Go away,” Cole grumbles, nuzzling closer, hischeekbrushing my hair.

My eyes fly open, and my body goes rigid.

“Seriously, Cole,” Tommy calls, his voice anxious. “General Amir is looking for you. And…Nadia. There’s a meeting?”

Cole inhales a deep breath, and Iknowthis because I canfeelit –

Because he’s spooning me, his entire body lined up with mine, my back flush with his chest, myasstuckedveryneatly in against –

“Okay,” Cole calls, turning slightly towards the tent’s entrance, his voice all husky with sleep. “We’ll be there in ten minutes.”

“You got it,” Tommy says, I think relieved.

But instead of gettingupCole just rolls back to where he was before, one arm wrapped tight around my waist, his other stretched out beneath my head – his damnbicepacting as my pillow –

And god – goddamnit – but my body relaxes again, pulling me back towards sleep – because even if this is the most awkward wakeup I’ve ever had in my life, I’m so fuckingcomfortable.

But – no. Absolutely not. I start to roll, intent on sitting up and getting my dignity back together –

“Nooo,” Cole groans, his arm tightening, pulling me back to where I was. “Go back to sleep.”

“We have to go to a meeting!”

“In fifteen minutes!”

“That is not a long time, Cole!”
