“Living in Manhattan hasn’t changed her,” I say with adoration for the fantastic woman who had the bigger part in raising me. “She refused to give up her passion, currently serving as the library director at Queens Borough near QC.”

“And you work at Queens College?”

I nod. “I teach one class each semester. I’m also the chief financial officer at the Department of Design and Construction located on Long Island. And I have a townhouse in Jackson Heights, putting me about midday between both locations.”

Addison laughs again. “You really are a hometown boy.”

I shrug again. “I love New York as a whole, but yes, I’m not ashamed to have grown up in Queens among many blue-collar workers; hard-working, proud people just trying to make the most out of life.”

She gets a gleam in her eyes. “So, tell me about Hawaii.”

I bust out laughing. “Well, thought I’d let loose for a few weeks after graduating, before starting work in the real world. I didn’t know when I’d have the opportunity again, so I jumped on it.”

“And met a girl named Addy.” She raises her brow expecting me to expand.

“Yeah, and met a girl named Addy,” I say a bit too reminiscently, thinking back on the most amazing week of my life and wishing I could turn back the clock.
