Chapter 5
Lynne – Six years ago – Hawaii
“I can’t believe this ends tomorrow,” Guy whispers. He snuggles into my backside, draping an arm across my hip as he presses his warm lips to my neck.
I sigh from the contact, loving how wonderful he feels against me as we lie in his bed. I’m sated and ready to fall into blissful slumber, trying not to think too hard about our time being over. I mean, it has to end, right?
That stupid catch-phrase comes to mind as I insert our current location—whathappens in Hawaii stays in Hawaii—and I want to groan at how ridiculous it sounds. Or what’s even more ridiculous was my plan to remain detached and keep this a free-spirited romp. Nothing more.
I can’t deny these past several days have been the best I’ve ever had in my life. We’ve been inseparable, spending practically every moment together doing nearly everything possible on the island. Hiking, swimming, biking, shopping, eating, and making love. Or, well, sex. Lots of sex.
I mean, we’d have to be in love to make love, right? And neither one of us is in love. That’d be preposterous. We’ve only known each other for six days.
Although…
Doesn’t matter that we’ve shared little details about our lives, some things you come to know just by being in someone’s presence the way we have.
Like how open, honest, humble, and sincere Guy seems to be. Or how he’s thoughtful and considerate, not only toward me, but others around us. Like last night when we were just about to be taken to our table at a restaurant and he overheard the hostess inform the couple behind us, who was celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary, that the wait would be nearly an hour. He looked to me and raised his brow, and all I had to do was give him a nod and he relinquished our table to them. They tried to dissuade us, saying they didn’t want to ruin our evening, but we insisted. We wished them a happy anniversary and backed out of the restaurant smiling, leaving them to their celebration.
Guy took my hand in his and led me down the street to a fabulous pizza joint where we stuffed our faces, laughing and talking about nothing and everything.
“This is the best!” I said. “I’d been secretly craving pizza and beer but didn’t want to spoil what you had planned.” I laughed before taking a hearty bite of gooey cheesy goodness.
“Part of me wanted to impress you even as another part wanted to just order in pizza and watch movies all night.”
“Mmm, yes,” I mumbled as I swallowed my bite. “The night’s not over,” I winked.
Crazy how we’d been in sync with one another from the start, and how that silent communication back at the restaurant had been effortless. As if we’d been doing things like that for much longer than mere days.
“That couple looked as if they were barely over sixty, and I know they didn’t marry at age ten,” Guy chuckled.
“They looked pretty fit and youthful, didn’t they?”
“Can you imagine? Fifty years with the same person and still looking every bit in love as if it was their first anniversary?”
“I imagine it’s a rarity these days,” I said absently.
“Says Ms. Fun-seeking, No-strings, Bohemian princess,” he said lightly.
I whipped my head up at his statement, noticing his teasing grin. He’d obviously read my stunned expression because his face quickly morphed with regret.
“Hey, I’m sorry.” He covered my hand with his. “I was only kidding. Not everyone believes in a lifetime commitment, and, well, that’s okay.”
I slid my hand from beneath his. “Do you?”
He remained quiet, pensive for a moment before shrugging. “I believe it’s possible. With the right person.”
He had focused his intent gaze on me and I’d been unable to look away, drawn into those warm depths, losing myself to the fantasy of a happily-ever-after.
“Addy,” Guy whispers, drawing me out of my thoughts from last night. I so badly want to blurt out the truth, wanting to hear my real name fall from his lips in that throaty, sexy voice he likes to use, knowing how aroused it makes me.
“Hmm,” I hum as I turn in his arms to face him.
He places a sweet kiss on my forehead as his arm wraps around my back to rest between my shoulder blades.
“Are you sure you have to leave tomorrow? I’ve got two more days and I haven’t had nearly enough of you. What am I gonna do all by myself?”
He swirls his fingers across my skin, eliciting tingles that have me squirming against him. And that, in turn, has him hardening as I feel his erection pressing into my thigh. I ignore his question, instead, distract him by reaching between us to gently rake my nails along his cock. He hisses and jerks in my hand. I wrap my fingers around him and squeeze while I nibble his neck, loving the feel of his warm skin under my lips. He tangles his fingers in my hair, maneuvering me so my head tips back allowing him to claim my mouth.
