Everything I’m feeling too.
“I couldn’t let you go,” he rasps, leaning his forehead to mine. “I couldn’t let you slip away again.”
My fingers are gentle now as I comb through his hair, as if trying to soothe this wild beast. He pulls back so our eyes meet again and the punch of pain is clear now. I start to turn away but his hold won’t allow it. He’s not going to let me evade him any longer.
“Don’t.” His plea arrows into me, widening the fissure in my heart. “Just, don’t,” he whispers. “Don’t run, don’t hide. Just be. With me.”
A whimper bubbles up and I close my eyes, trying to will away the threatening tears. But they slowly roll down my cheeks and Guy is quick to swipe them away.
“And don’t cry, goddammit, don’t cry.” There’s only tenderness in his voice as he begins to pepper my face with kisses before landing back on my lips. He’s sweet and tender, kissing me slowly but with no less passion.
The halting of the elevator and that damn annoying ping of arrival breaks our bubble. As the door opens, Guy straightens and attempts to put me back to rights. He brushes his hands over my hair before linking a hand with mine. When he turns for the door, we’re greeted by Addison and Hollis standing in front of us. Hollis’s eyes are wide with surprise then confusion, but Addy’s smiling as she throws a wink my way.
I release a breath as I tighten my hand around Guy’s, preparing for the next step.
