Chapter 12
Guy
Feeling Lynne’s hand in mine, feeling it tighten even, bolsters me like you wouldn’t believe. Running up ten flights of stairs to catch her was well worth it when she didn’t resist my kiss. Hell, my assault. But I couldn’t help it.Seeing that charm, that bracelet around her wrist shocked me. Thrilled me. Was it fate that she happened to be wearing it today? Did she wear it often or was today just a coincidence? Whatever the reason, I knew I still had a chance. I had to get to her. Having her back in my arms, her lips beneath mine, our bodies pressed together felt fucking fantastic.
And it’s only the beginning.
I give her hand a reassuring squeeze as I lead her out of the elevator and toward our friends. Hollis will need the story, although I think he’s putting it together, given what I told him at the party yesterday. But it looks like Addison was half expecting this to happen. Her sassy smile and wink nearly make me chuckle, but all I do is give her a smile in return.
“Well, well, well…” she starts.
“Addy,” Lynne says with a warning tone.
“I was going to say it looks like you finally got your head out of your ass.”
I chuckle, Lynne rolls her eyes, and Hollis sputters a laugh before he sobers.
“Wait, what?” He looks to me, then Lynne, then back to me. “She’s your Addy? From Hawaii? She’s the one who—”
“Oh, for Heaven’s sake,” Lynne says, exasperated. “Yes, okay? Yes, I’m the fling, the idiot who—”
I turn to Lynne, cutting off her words. “Stop. You’re not an idiot.” I trace a finger down her cheek, lifting her chin. “We’ll have our time to talk, to sort through this. Trust me.” I lean forward to kiss her gently. When I pull back and meet her dazed eyes, she gives me a wobbly smile. Turning back to our audience, I ask if we can go back to their office. “I’m sure we could all use a drink.”
“And talk,” Lynne adds. I face her. “I need to talk to you all about something.” I notice she zeros in on Addison. “It’s the reason I was headed here.” When Addison cocks her head, Lynne just says, “Let’s go get that drink. We’re definitely going to need it.”
More than curious now, I keep ahold of Lynne’s hand as we follow Addison and Hollis back to their suite. Hollis leads us into his office, going directly for the bar. Our glasses are still there from earlier, so he refills our tumblers with more than two fingers of the brandy we were sipping.
“Ladies? What’ll it be?”
“I’ll have some of the good stuff,” Addison says, motioning to the bottle currently in his hand.
“Lynne? I also have Scotch, soda water, and I’m sure there’s wine here somewhere.”
“Might as well make it brandy straight across.” She turns to me. “I need to use the bathroom.”
I nod as I release her hand and watch her drop her bag and coat on a chair. She walks to the adjoining bathroom and quietly closes the door. I stare at the door, my thoughts on her and what she has to say that would include all of us. Hollis’s voice has me turning toward him.
“Dude, how crazy is this! Lynne being yourAddy.” He glances at Addison before continuing. “And you’re reunited. I can’t wait to hear this story.”
“What are you, fifteen?” Addison jibes as she takes a tumbler. “Give them some time to themselves before you start invading their privacy.”
“Ha, you’re one to talk.” He grins. “From your comment earlier, I’m sure you’ve been all over her, obviously pushing to get them back together.” He takes a drink before setting down his glass and bringing two over to me. “Good choice, by the way. Gorgeous, smart.” He winks, causing me to chuckle.
“Good thing I know you’re head over heels for your own gorgeous and smartwife.” I tease.
“Damn straight.”
At that moment, Lynne emerges from the bathroom, looking more relaxed. She walks directly to me and I offer her a glass of liquor. She smiles sweetly as she wraps her hand around it, causing our fingers to brush. Her eyes remain on me as she takes a sip, sighing when she moves the glass away from her mouth. I watch the sweep of her tongue across her lips before meeting her gaze again. Her cheeks blush and it’s the cutest thing, and still it stirs my cock. But this is the wrong place and time for that to happen, as evidenced by Addison’s words.
“All right, you two, save that for later. Everybody sit.”
Lynne and I smile at each other as we all move to take a seat. Hollis has two leather couches situated in a V formation with a table between them, and a chair on the other side of the table. Lynne and I pair off on one couch while Addison and Hollis take the other.
“Lynne, spill,” Addison says matter-of-factly. “I take it this has to do with the meeting you had with your father.”
A sigh escapes as Lynne says, “Yes.” She looks at Hollis then turns my way. “It has to do with those missing funds we spoke about earlier. And a helluva lot more.”
I raise my brow, more than intrigued. Although with the weariness I still sense, I don’t think this is going to be a picnic for her. If anything, it may completely drain her.
