He smiles. It’s certainly not as brilliant as his usual smiles, but it’s something. “Let’s go.”
We walk out of the room, lock the door, and make our way toward the elevator. Once inside, I get a reflection of myself and groan.
“Gah, I should’ve gone to Addy’s office to freshen up. I look like hell.”
Guy pivots to stand in front of me, caging me against the wall with his hands on either side of my head. He leans in close and states, “You don’t need makeup or anything else. You look beautiful.”
I scoff. “I look—”
“Shut up,” he whispers before sealing his lips to mine, kissing me soundly. When he pulls away, taking my breath with him, he cocks a brow. “Any further arguments?”
My voice is husky when I finally have the power to speak. “If it gets me anymore of that, I’ll argue all night long.”
The corner of his mouth rises with a sly grin. “Talk about sassy.” He dips in for another quick kiss before pivoting back to my side, taking my hand in his, and I can’t keep the smile off my face.
We ride in silence for the short trip until the elevator reaches the lobby. He glances at me as we stroll out of the building. “Still trust me?”
I answer with a simple yes, now earning one of his brilliant smiles, and I feel in my heart the tide has turned for us.
