Her smile and giggle make my fucking heart skip a beat.
She is something else, I can tell you that.
Lilith was always happy and caring when she came to visit when we were younger. People loved just being in her presence.
Lilith Cullen would give you the shirt off her back and her last dollar, if you needed it. No matter if she knew you or not, that is the type of person she is, and I want Dom to have that in his life.
Being brought up with the Ol’ Ladies of the club had such a profound effect on Dom: he saw what it was like to treat a woman right, he saw the respect that women deserve, but he also saw some of the shit that men pull on women and that is not right. I still laugh remembering the day when he found out that Astrid was gone and it was Lennox’s fault; he punched that fucker in the balls.
Dominic has never met or seen any of the women I have hooked-up with. I never wanted that life for him. It was always my way of keeping a promise to myself that he would meet the one woman that I would call my own, that I would claim.
When Lilith came back to Fort Lauderdale and I found out that’s she was staying and opening Wicked Sugar, I knew that it was my chance, but I needed to be wary of jumping right in with her, because she respects my relationship with my son. Even from afar, you can tell that she knows that Dom takes priority with me.
It makes me want her more.
“Knowing my mother, she has everything planned to the second with this wedding, even if it is not her daughter getting married. Again, people are afraid to tell my mother no. I will ask if I can bring a date.”
“Good. I can only assume that I need a tux for this shit.”
She gasps, her lips forming the perfect ‘O.’
“You? You want to be my date?”
“Who else would you take? You have a man stashed away that I do not know about?” I growl, thinking she may have another man in mind.
Her head pulls back at my deep growl, her eyes widen but I see no fear, arousal maybe but no fear. She likes my jealousy. Oh, I see you, baby.
“No one. I haven’t been on a single date since I have been here, Jack.” Her voice is a whisper, as she looks back out to the ramps.
I know she is telling me the truth because yeah, I check on her. Maybe stalk a little. Sue me.
“I know.” I wink. “You find out if you can bring a date and I am your man.” I lean in kissing her jaw, making her shiver. “In all fucking ways, baby.”
She nods but says nothing. So we sit and watch Dom for another hour. We talk about random shit. Her sugar work, my hunting business with the club.
The simple time I have with her means more than she can ever fucking know. There is no pretending, no expectations, just the soothing sounds of the water, the sounds of kids playing, and simple conversation.
Fucking unplanned perfect date.
CHAPTER SIX
LILITH
My arms ache. My back aches, but I have a smile on my face.
Today I am making a pretty pink unicorn for a little girl’s fifth birthday.
When her mom came to me and asked if I could make the cake strawberry sponge with pink and white icing, but she wanted a unicorn on top made from pure sugar, I agreed.
The buzzer sounds, letting me know to take the sponge out of the oven.
Once they are out, I set them to one side to cool down before I even think of moving onto the next step with them.
“Hey, hey, Auntie Lilith, we need you,” gets called out from the front of my store.
I can’t stop the big smile that moves across my face hearing Kady call out to me.
“Be right there,” I reply.
