“I could say the same about you, Jack. For years, I have had you on my mind. The little things that would remind me of you, are why I never gave my heart to Christopher fully.”

He chuckles, stepping back and taking a seat at the large kitchen island. “Like what?”

Picking up my mug, I take a sip before smiling behind the mug, letting him wait for me. His eyebrow arches in question, asking why I am taking my time telling him.

“The sound of any motorcycle. The scent of motor oil. I remember that you would always smell of oil; the girls would brag about watching you clean or repair your bike. I was so jealous of them back then.” I giggle, looking at the man who is now in front of me, who just seconds ago had his tongue down my throat.

“They had nothing on you, Lil. It was just teenage hormones back then. I know you kept your distance after I had Dom, and it was the right thing to do, even though it pissed me off when I found out you were with the dickless fucker.” He winks, making me giggle.

“I knew you would be a great father to him; you had— and still have— a great support system around you with the club, and all of you turned out okay. It was safer for my heart to stay away.”

“Your heart is safe with me now, Lil.”

Freaking swoon.

My heart patters in my chest, and my tummy flutters.

“What’s for breakfast?” comes a sleepy voice.

I smile, looking over at Dominic, who is in his Avenger PJs, his hair sticking up in all different directions.

Something settles in my heart being here with them like this. This is what I have always wanted: a family of my own. Even though Dominic is not my blood, I could love him like he was, if this thing with Jack goes well.

I honestly think that even if Jack and I do not make it, I would still love this little boy; he has a grip on my heart that I am happy for him to keep a hold of.

“Morning to you too, sunshine,” Jack greets his son.

“Morning, Dad. Morning, Lil.” He sits down on the chair next to Jack, before finally looking up to me, then over to the counter that has the cupcakes set out on it.

“Did you make all of those for the party?” His voice shows his shock, along with his now wide eyes.

“I did. I have done a mixture of flavors for you and your friends. Apple cinnamon, vanilla, and some confetti ones. Is that okay?” I ask him.

“Okay? That is amazing, Lilith, thank you.” He leaps from his seat and runs to me, wrapping his arms around my waist.

I hug him to me, kissing the top of his head.

“You’re welcome. Now, while this batch is cooking, why don’t I make you both some pancakes and eggs?”

“Thanks.” Jack winks at me when I look at him.

They chat while I make them some pancakes, eggs, then cook some bacon to fill them up. Placing some orange juice on the table for Dominic, I slide their plates in front of them, then sit in the empty chair and we all dig in.

“Are you excited for the party?” I ask.

“Yes, this party will be a blast. Elli’s mom and dad hired a DJ for the whole day, we get to play in the pool, and they have big inflatable floaties that we can use. His parents have gone all out because he is ten, they are super rich, but they are really nice people unlike some of the rich kids at school.” He looks down at his plate as he says the last part.

“You having shit in school, Son?” Jack inquires.

Dominic shakes his head. “Sometimes; you know I can handle myself, Dad, but they say shit about the club. I put them in their place, but kids these days show no respect.”

I can’t help but smile behind my mug at hearing this ten-year-old boy say things like ‘kids these days.’ He is truly older than his age.

“They give you shit that you can’t handle, then you come home and tell me, alright? No fucker gets away with bitching about the Rugged Skulls, but you remember our rule.”

“Yeah, Dad. Fight with words and not fists, unless they hit you first. Then you only hit once to get them to back off.”

Freaking hell, these two are too much.
