But as Vorzyr’s heartfelt words hung there so wonderfully, they didn’t feel heavy. They didn’t feel like a strain upon anything.

They felt right.

Freeing.

Vulnerable, but in a powerful, definitive way.

“I love you, too.”

A lovely smile spread over his face, he lit up so amazingly.

And then he had me giggling as he pounced on me and started kissing me everywhere.

When he stopped, he eased me back with him, and he was grinning from ear-to-ear.

“I’m calm now, gorgeous. If you want to head up to the Guardian Compoundnowyou might be able to catch at least the remainder of Nyx’s presentation.”

“If I arrive halfway through, it would knock everyone off-kilter. With my power, arriving anywhere in a rush will give an unsettling jolt to anyone nearby.”

“You could fly on me in dragon form.” He grimaced. “But I know you guys don’t want me up there because of the risk of exposing my Celestial-based abilities. And, yeah, I’m calm now, but after what happened, any unexpected provocation could cause issues.”

“The risk is too high, yes,” I admitted.

Instead of getting down about it, or even trying to push his case, he announced suddenly, “I have an idea!”

He rolled off the bed and walked to his desk and opened a drawer.

I cocked an eyebrow as I saw him bring out a holoscreen.

He brought it over and bounced back onto the bed, crossing his legs and sitting in front of me. “Kai left this here. Our idea was to watch Nyx’s presentation through this so we could be there with the both of you, even if not physically in person.”

“Perfect.”

He held it out between us. “Will you do the honors?”

I smiled and swept my hand over it, spelling it to zone in on Nyx.

We saw him in the Speaker’s Circle with Velra Knox.

“It sounds like it’s near the end already,” Vorzyr said.

“It’s okay, we’ll watch what we can, then have him and Kai tell us the rest.”

“Right. Kai never misses a single detail of anything so we’ll get a great recollection.”

The two of us settled in to watch then.

I could feel his eyes on me.

Damn, a whole lot more than that.

His warmth and encouragement, his pride in me.

Kai was standing in the open doorway of the Great Hall, leaning against the wall, and watching Velra and I deliver our presentation on the Crossborn Refuge System.
