We welcomed our bride with love, care, and the utmost respect. She seemed nervous, but I knew that once she truly understood Devarsa, she wouldn't be able to resist him.
Everyone felt drained after the celebration. I saw Rudra enter the chamber, exhaustion written all over his face. He wrapped his arms around me and buried his face in the crook of my neck, inhaling deeply.
“It felt surreal, Nandani,” he murmured.
“What?” I asked gently, reaching to unfasten his overcoat.
He smiled at me and spoke softly.“This. You and I, together as husband and wife... a happy family, and all these responsibilities as king and queen, all of it feels surreal. Just a year ago, I had nothing but the weight of my past and the burden of the future. And now? It feels freeing to know that the past holds no more power, and the future... It’s something we get to build together,”
I smiled and gently pushed him down into the chair. He pulled me into his lap, and I settled there comfortably.“Yes, Rudra. It’s like a dream. Can we even be happier than this?” I whispered.
“I don’t think so,” he replied.“I used to worry so much about my brother’s future. If I hadn’t become King, they might’ve ended up serving in courts of other states as mere workmen. But now, they have names of their own, a legacy. And I don’t want to be like my uncle—a tyrant feared more than respected. I want to be a kingin the true sense, someone remembered with honour. I want to restore Suryagarh’s pride, its charisma and power, and pass that legacy to our children,”
I cupped his cheeks.“You will, Rudra. And we’ll do it together. We’ll fight every battle that comes our way—for our people and kingdom. And one day, we’ll raise a future king who’ll carry forward everything you build. Your efforts will never go in vain,”
He pulled me into a warm embrace.“Promise me, Nandani. Promise me you’ll always be by my side. That you’ll stop me if I ever stray, fight me if I’m wrong, and be the strength I lean on and the home I return to. Promise me you’ll always be bold, adorable, and my little seductress.”
I kissed his cheek.“Always, Rudra,” I said.“Since the day you first confessed your love—even if it wasn’t real, I’ve been all yours. I love you so much. I’m not sure if you truly understand this, but I’m obsessed with you. I know obsession is often a man’s domain, but I am completely. I feel like I was born for you. I never knew the reason for my existence until I met you. Maybe it’s to prove that a woman can fight for love, too. Or maybe... to give history another name to remember—a dangerous, burning love story. I am yours, Rudra. In every breath. In every inch of me. I have no shame in that,”
He leaned in and kissed me, slowly, lovingly, on the lips.“I love you, Nandani. So much. My little wife,” he whispered against my lips.
I couldn’t help but smile.“I know it took me time to realise what I felt for you, but sometimes, losing a battle helps you win your life,”
I chuckled softly.“Come on, let’s sleep. It’s late, and you’re exhausted,” I stood from his lap, but he grabbed my hand and looked at me, his eyes trailing down to my nightdress.
His fingers found the strings at my waist and tugged them loose. He pushed the overcoat aside and gently pressed me against the dressing table.
He lifted my legs and placed them on the armrests of his chair. My heart started racing as he raised my dress, parting my thighs.
Then he leaned in, and his mouth met my core with an intensity that made me gasp. My hips lifted, grinding with his tongue, moans tumbling uncontrollably from my lips, and my knees shook immensely.
“Rudra… what are you doing?” I barely managed, breathless.
He slid two fingers into me and curled them inside, making me flinch at his teasing. Suddenly, the tip of his finger hit a spot inside, and my body trembled violently. I couldn’t hold myself. A loud cry escaped my lips as my knees gave out.
He gripped my thighs, striking the same spot, his rhythm relentless, until I shattered into pieces in his arms, collapsing to the floor with ragged breaths.
“I’m breaking my eighth promise, Nandani,” he said softly, pulling me into his embrace.
I suddenly felt small in his arms, safe and weak and loved all at once. My head rested on his shoulder as I panted for breath.
“I’m giving myself to you. Entirely. As your husband, your king, your slave… your everything. I’m becoming your Rudra, Nandani. Only yours,”
I looked up into his eyes, breath still uneven.“And I’ve always been yours, Rudra. Even in my wildest dreams and darkest nightmares, you were the one to haunt me and heal me,”
We kissed slowly and deeply, lost in each other again. He lifted me into his arms and walked us to the bed with care and love.
That night, the rest of our lives awaited us.
By day, we were Ranaji and Ranisa—equal in duty, dignified in responsibility. But by night, we were just two lovers trying to escape the cage of the world and fly a little higher.
As the days passed and responsibilities grew heavier, our long talks shortened, shared meals were skipped, and quiet moments became rare.
But one thing never changed—the never-ending ache to chase each other across time and duty—the wait that made every union feel new again.
