“Are you coming to the Halloween party next week?” I choose a safe subject because I don’t want to talk this to death. I want him for as long as I can get him, and it seems the feeling is mutual.
That’s all I really need right now.
“Yup. Bowen too.”
I chuckle. “God help us.”
He laughs and squeezes me to him.
It’s comfortable and warm, lying here with him like this. No doubt, it’s going to get dicey at some point, but for now, I’m going to just let this happen and hope with everything I have that I have the strength to hold onto him when it gets rough.
CHAPTER NINETEEN
My brother is goofy as hell—but he’s having fun, so it’s actually pretty great to see. I’m pretty sure he’s having more fun than the kids are at the school Halloween party. He dressed up as Iron Man—because he’s my son’s favorite, no doubt.
Bowen wouldn’t admit that though.
I chose to just wear regular clothes—and definitely got an earful from my brother about how I need to loosen up and have more fun.
My eyes connect with Spencer’s across the classroom, and I smile to myself. I’ve definitely been having more fun lately.
I had a shift on Saturday, but Tuesday, I managed to sneak away for a little bit and then pulled a double shift. But today, I’m off, and I made it to Elijah’s Halloween party. “Why are you grinning at the teacher?”
Shit.Bowen nudges my arm with his, handing me a cookie one of the parents brought. I take it from him and pull my gaze off Spencer, hoping I’m not being too obvious.Being balls deep inside a guy twice in the past week makes a guy smile, damn it.
“We...” Okay, Kade. Tread carefully. “We talked it out.”
He raises one brow and looks ridiculous in his costume, being all suspicious and shit. “Talked it out?”
“Yes. Talked. Like adults,” I say slowly, playing it up a little too much.
“Huh.” He looks over at Spencer, who must have been watching us because he quickly looks away, and he’s so damn cute, I can’t even be bothered by how obvious that was. Bowen looks back at me and then shrugs. “Okay. Cool.”
I kind of want to tell my brother about Spencer, but considering I don’t really know what it is between us yet—and my brother is so not subtle—I know I need to keep it to myself.
It doesn’t keep my eyes off Spencer though, and I finally just make my way over to him. “Hi, Mr. Mitchell.”
Yeah, he cannot call me that right now. The sound of his sultry voice begging me to get inside him while using my last name rings in my ears, and my body starts to respond. “You can’t do that here.”
His eyes sparkle with mirth. “What? Call you Mr. Mitchell?” He drops his voice again, and damn him.
“Yeah. Call me Kade. Please, Mr. Bell,” I say, flirting right back, and it makes him laugh.
“I suppose you can call me Spencer then.”
“Okay,” I say with a grin, looking over to where Bowen is leading one of the games, and Elijah is explaining to him just how off he is on the rules and lecturing him for not reading the instructions.
“You going trick-or-treating later?” Spencer asks from beside me, his eyes on his class.
“Yeah, but I was thinking about maybe going for a drive after Elijah is in bed.”
“Is that so? Anywhere fun?”
“Very, very fun,” I say, my voice low as I watch the kids play the game.
I can feel him smiling next to me. “Well, I’ll probably be up pretty late, handing out candy.”
I grin. “Good.” I head over to join Elijah and to take part in the game—giving Bowen shit along with the first graders and having a blast. Of course, I’m also already thinking about getting to touch Spencer again when I show up at his place later. It’s been running through my head on a constant loop since I left his house.
