Int. Apartment Hallway - Night
James knocks on Jenna’s door, hands in his pockets and shoulders slumped.
Annie answers the door in her pyjamas. Her initial reaction is surprise, then shifts to hurt.
Annie looks over her shoulder, then steps into the hall. She closes the door and crosses her arms.
JAMES
I wanted to apologize for earlier. I
shouldn’t have left you there like that.
ANNIE
It was really scary. I didn’t know my
way back and didn’t have my phone.
We wandered around for an hour.
JAMES
I feel terrible. If anything happened
to either of you, I’d never be able to
forgive myself. I carry enough guilt as
is, I couldn’t bear any more...
ANNIE
We’re okay. You don’t need to feel guilty about anything. Except maybe not carrying pumpkin spice in your café. That is a crime.
JAMES
(smiling)
I’ll put up garland and lights, but
I refuse to stoop to pumpkin spice.
ANNIE
(smiling back)
I’d invite you in, but there’s a baby
in here and I don’t want you to
freak out.
JAMES
I promise I won’t. But I was actually
hoping you’d come to my place? I was
