I fell against his side and rested my head on his shoulder as he draped his arm around me. “Thanks, it’s great how well he’s fitting in with everyone.” I glanced at the big picture window in the main room, the late afternoon sun making shadows grow across the lawn. “I hope he’s here soon. This is torture waiting for him.”
The creaking of a door filled the house and Silas strolled in. “Would you look at you two.” He planted his hand on his hip and tutted, shaking his head. “Give me my boyfriend back, Milo.”
Lifting up, I twisted around. It was time to fuck with Silas a little bit. “You can’t have him. He’s mine.” With a smirk, I grabbed Cash by the cheeks and planted a quick kiss on his lips. “There.” I darted my gaze to Silas.
Cash’s eyes grew wide, and a smile ghosted over his lips. “Oh, my…”
“Bastard.” With a huff, Silas came around the couch and dropped in next to Cash, then grabbed him up, pulling him half into his lap. “Mine.” He glared at me, the corners of his lips twitching as if holding back a grin.
“Damn, this is sort of turning me on.” Cash turned into Silas, laying his legs across his lap, and smiled at him, then gave him a deep kiss. “Love you, hun.”
Silas’ cheeks pinked. “I know. Love you, too.” His gaze found mine. “Where’s your fireman, so you’ll leave my boyfriend alone?”
“He’s coming out to his dad, then he’ll be over.” My pulse sped up. The distraction had been nice.
“Are you serious?” Silas narrowed his eyes. “Do you think it will go badly?”
“I don’t think so, but you never know, right?” I played with the hem of my t-shirt. Silas had always had some issues with his dad. Maybe he’d be good to talk to about this, since Cash’s parents were like saints. “H-how did your dad take it?”
Twisting his lips, Silas said, “He wasn’t very accepting of it at first, especially because I’m bi. So, he expected I could just date women and get over myself.” His gaze flicked to Cash. “But then Cash won him over and the problem was solved.” He pecked Cash’s cheek.
“Ryder is bi. I wonder if his dad will think the same thing?” I studied Silas. Was it harder sometimes to be bi? Like did people not believe you because you could appear straight?
Knocking sounded on the front door.
“Shit, that’s got to be him.” I hopped off the couch and jogged for the door.
“Do you want us to stay or go to our bedroom for a little while and give you some space?” Cash climbed out of Silas’ lap and made to get up.
“You can stay. He might need all of us and I think Silas might understand his situation best.” I flung the door open and looked him over. “Hey, babe.”
Ryder dropped his duffle bag and threw his arms around me, burying his head in my neck and hugging me close. “Milo, I missed you so much.” He breathed me in, then kissed the side of my head.
Wrapping my arms around his waist, I held him tightly. “I missed you, too.” Brushing my fingers down the back of his hair, I said, “Are you okay?” He seemed emotional, but was it in a good way or a bad way?
“I’m okay.” He nodded against my cheek. “Fuck, it’s been a week, but…” He freed me and held me out in front of him. “Hazel and Dad both know about us and they’re happy for us. Hazel wants to come to your show tomorrow night and Dad wants to have brunch with us on Sunday.” He lifted his brows. “You okay with that?”
With a relieved laugh, I nodded. “Yes, very okay.” I stepped aside. “Come in, it’s hot as hell out there.”
“It is.” He picked up his duffle, then ambled into the house, raking his fingers through his long bangs. Ticking his head at each of them, he said, “Hey, Silas, Cash.”
“Hey. So, I take it things went well with your old man?” Silas tugged Cash sideways onto his lap, winding his arms around him.
“Yeah, it went well.” Ryder glanced at me with a sly smile. “He’d pretty much already figured it out.”
“He did?” I stared at him. His dad had always been pretty perceptive of people.
Shifting the duffle to his other hand, Ryder said, “He knows um…well, he said that he always thought we were closer than most boys usually were growing up.” He gave a stuttered laugh. “Let’s just say it didn’t surprise him.”
The tension in my whole body floated away. “Damn…Good.” Judging by the bag in his hand, he intended on staying the weekend. We had a whole weekend together. My heart soared. “So, let’s get your things put away.” I led him toward my bedroom.
“Sure. What do you want to do tonight?” He followed me into my room and set his duffle on the bed, then unzipped it.
I scratched my head. “I don’t know.” I looked around my room. I hadn’t thought ahead very well. It’s not like I was used to this dating thing.
Pulling out Jeremy’s folded shirt, he said, “Date? Like, maybe dinner and a movie?” He tossed the shirt to the bed, then wrapped me up in his arms from behind, a broad smile sweeping over his face. “Or is that too corny?”
Warmth crept up my neck. “No, it’s not too corny.” God, I loved him, so much. It was finally my turn to have someone special in my life and who’d have thought I’d end up with Ryder being the one?
