BALTIMORE SUNREADERS RESPOND

I read the suggestions in Delegate Ciliberti’s op-ed about the tragic Parkland shooting on February 14th (“The real lessons of Parkland shooting”). As a member of Mothers Against Violence, I welcome all ideas for reducing violence.

Unfortunately the plan to add more guns to schools, arming teachers and guards, is not backed up by research. Just look at the recent drop in gun violence in states that have taken MAV’s input for new, strict gun license rules. The data shows that fewer guns, not more guns, makes us safer.

The Parkland massacre was the last straw for me, as it was for so many people. In memory of the lives lost, the 28thAmendment was submitted, repealing the 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms. This new Amendment has already passed both houses of Congress and been ratified by several states, including Maryland.

How will history view the Delegate’s words? Will he join the movement to put safety first, to finally reduce the supply of guns in our schools and on our streets? Or will he continue to propose bills that enrich the companies that make and sell guns?

We must pass this Amendment. America needs 38 states to ratify the 28thAmendment and make it the new law of the land. This update to the Constitution will allow for nationwide gun control laws. We will be able to confiscate illegal weaponssuch as the one used at Parkland. Our children must come first. Sign the Baltimore petition at MAVBaltimore.com.
