Tom winked to me encouragingly. ‘Yes, well, I’ll go home for an early night, and I’ll see you tomorrow then, boss.’

He walked towards the clinic door, clutched hold of the door handle and turned back around to face Andy.

‘Take care of her, Andy.’ Tom gave one last smirk and left the clinic.

The smile radiated across my face as I looked at Andy, excited and nervous.

‘So …’ He stood up and took a step towards me.

‘So …’ I repeated.

He laughed and walked up to me, reaching for my hands.

‘You up for giving this a shot, Zara?’

I faced the floor nervously, but nodded as I breathed a sigh of relief. ‘Actually, I think I am.’

Andy’s fingers raised my chin towards his face and he kissed me, lightly, sweetly, perfectly, once.

I couldn’t keep the satisfied grin off my face as I stared at the man I had crushed on for months. I could feel an innocence radiate off us, apprehensive but eager to start a new chapter of our lives together. He held me closely in his arms, and finally I felt wanted.

‘You know, I was starting to think good geezers didn’t exist,’ I whispered, looking up at him.

Andy smiled. ‘I was here all along, darlin’.’
