Clutching the sheets around me, I sit up as Killian gets out of bed and goes over to his dresser to dig out a pair of sweats. Neither he nor the twins seem bothered by his nudity, and the last of my apprehension disappears.
They obviously don’t care about any of this. Why should I?
“What did you find out?” Killian asks as he pulls a pair of sweats on.
“We had a little chat with William last night,” Jax says as he props his feet up on the coffee table.
Killian pulls a second set of sweats out of the drawer and tosses them to me. I’m so surprised I barely manage to catch them before the bundle of material smacks into my chest. He grins and throws a box of tissues to me. I catch it, but my face heats uncomfortably when I see the knowing grins the twins are giving me.
“Should I go?” I ask, looking between Killian and the twins.
“No,” Killian says with a little grin as he closes the dresser drawer.
“It’s about you,” Jax adds. “Don’t you think you should hear it?”
“Of course,” I blurt. “It’s just you haven’t really told me much about what’s going on. I didn’t want to assume…”
“How about you put your pants on and come check out your goodie bag?” Jace kicks the table under the bag he set on it earlier. “And we’ll tell you what we know.”
Goodie bag? I blink at Killian in confusion.
He shoots me an amused smile and heads over to the sitting area.
Instead of embarrassing myself some more, I quickly tug a few tissues free and wipe up the mess on my thighs. When I’m mostly clean, I pull on the sweats and climb out of bed. They’re a bit big on me, and I have to roll the waistband a few times to help them stay up.
Something about wearing his clothes makes me feel giddy, and I mentally chastise myself as I head over to sit with them.
I really need to stop trying to read into things and looking for deeper meanings in his actions. It’s stupid to get all gooey inside because Killian gave me a pair of his pants to wear, even if they do smell like him and make me feel safe.
“We have some answers,” Jace says as Killian settles on the settee and Jax uses his foot to slide the paper bag over to him.
“What did you learn?” Killian asks as he roots through the bag.
“That he’s a pussy whipped dumbass,” Jace says with a grin.
Killian chuckles and pulls a wrapped muffin out of the bag. “We already knew that. Is he still breathing?”
“For now,” Jace says with a smirky grin. “Let’s just say he was very willing to do whatever we requested of him after he was reintroduced to Goldie after we got to his room.” He pulls the knife out of his pocket and flips the blade out of the handle.
“I once again offered to give him a proper shave after we searched the place and his devices.” Jace shrugs and closes the blade with a quick flick of his wrist. “Can’t imagine why he didn’t take the deal.”
Killian snickers and pulls another muffin out of the bag.
Tentatively, I approach them. I know they said I should stay, but a part of me is waiting for one of them to yell ‘Sike’ and tell me to get the fuck out of the room.
“Do you actually know how to use a straight razor?” I ask when no one yells at me. “Like to shave and not just to make people shit their pants from fear?”
Jace grins at me and smooths his hand over his cheek. “Yup. Come here and feel it.” He rubs his cheek again. “Smooth as silk.”
I toss a glance at Killian. I don’t know why my first instinct is to look to him or why I feel like I need permission to touch Jace, but his pleased smile and the little nod he gives me make my insides go warm with more of those annoying, gooey feelings.
Still feeling a bit off-kilter, I step closer to Jace and run the backs of my fingers over his cheek. His skin is butter-soft and as smooth as glass while also having a springy and firm texture that half the girls I know would kill for.
“Jesus,” I mutter. “Thatisa close shave. Let me guess, you don’t even have a skincare routine, and this is all natural.”
He grins and leans back against the couch. “Does washing my face and wearing sunscreen count as a routine?”
“How about we get back to what went down with William?” Killian says. “And we can trade beauty secrets later.”
