I rolled my head against the pillow. “Well, if you don’t feel up to the challenge of keeping up—”
My words were cut off when he slid into me. “Oh, my god. Oh, shit.”
I saw him swallow hard. “Fuck, you’re tight,” he grunted as he slid in even further.
He pulled out, then thrust forward again, this time fully seating himself. I clasped his arms, feeling his gigantic muscles flex as he repeated the motion. Already, I felt my inner walls flutter. I’d never had back-to-back orgasms before, but this man promised to deliver.
“So. Good,” I gasped as he slid out and refilled me.
I didn’t know how long I could last. I could feel the pressure building, the contractions already starting as Mac moved faster and faster. I rocked against him until once again, I cried out, the pleasure multiplying as he continued to chase his own release.
His lower lip was pulled between his teeth as he thrust in and out, then his muscles clenched as he moaned, riding out his pleasure even as small quakes still shook me.
Spent, he eased out of me and collapsed at my side, his chest still heaving. As if he sensed I felt cold without him, he rolled onto his side and pulled me to him. I immediately curled into his warmth, still overwhelmed by the intensity of the experience.
He dropped a soft kiss on the top of my hair. “Sleep.”
I nodded and placed a tired kiss on his chest where my head lay, savoring the calming rhythm of his heart as it slowed back to normal.
I didn’t trust myself to speak. I was too overwhelmed with a new thought: There was more at stake than just this competition.
The real battle was going to be not letting Mac Caldwell break my heart.
Chapter20
Mac
Sonofabitch!
I yanked my hand away from the two-by-four and shook it as if that could ease the pain from where the hammer had hit my thumb.
I should be focused. I’d gotten more rest yesterday than I had in weeks. Cam and I had finished the day napping in between rounds of sex before falling into a long night’s sleep.
Yet, here I was, making rookie mistakes and taking longer than I should to get the job done.
Cam was across the room nailing crown molding along the ceiling line. Seeing her yield a power tool was sexy as hell. All morning, I’d been watching her movements—and monitoring the attention she generated from everyone else.
Was the cameraman staring at her ass? Why was the flooring guy standing so close to her? What did the dude who was supposed to be painting say to make her laugh so hard?
I knew I shouldn’t be feeling this way. I had no claim on her, no right to feel possessive. But I couldn’t help it. The wordminekept playing in my head, taunting me.
I’d had sex before, even good sex. But last night? It had been the kind that triggered a warning in my head. I knew I should have never let it happen.
Now, I was losing focus on my work, distracted from my goal of winning. This was supposed to be for me and Trey.
But this…thisthingwith Cam, whatever it was, was jeopardizing everything. I didn’t know how to feel about it. I regretted it, but at the same time, I didn’t. It was a dangerous game we were playing.
Cam caught my eye and winked at me, and I felt all my defenses crumble. I tipped my chin at her, then returned my attention to the piece of wood with new determination, finally finishing the new door frame.
We’d made good progress this week. We were working on a theater and game room. Everything about this house was extraordinary. I couldn’t imagine having the kind of wealth to afford a place like this.
I rubbed my arm across my forehead. The temps had dropped in the Colorado mountains, and there was even the threat of snow. But with all the people hustling about and doing physical labor, I still was warm.
“That’s time,” Chelle called out.
The contracted employees only worked from eight to five. Any work before or after those hours was considered overtime, so generally, Cam and I continued working on our own.
Knowing I still needed to hang the door, I headed to the garage, but was stopped by Chelle’s next words. “Cam and Mac, you guys, too. You’ve been invited to have dinner with Jared Carson at the lodge.”
