My mind went blank as I continued to pound into her until her cries mingled with mine in a moment of pure ecstasy as I pulsed inside of her until I was completely spent. Somehow, I managed not to completely collapse on top of her. She rested in my arms as I flipped to my back, her fingers tracing little circles on my chest.
“If that’s your long answer, I need to remember to just skip over the short one,” I teased once I had regained my breath.
She giggled, the noise warming my heart in a way I was becoming addicted to. She sat up on one elbow, her brow a little furrowed.
I smoothed a golden curl away from her face. “What’s the matter?”
“Well, sex is great with you.”
I grinned. “That’s a good start.”
She twisted my nipple lightly, sending a rush of desire straight to my groin area. “Hey, that’s not the way to start a conversation, princess, unless you want to use your mouth for something other than talking again.”
The pink on her cheeks turned a little darker. “My family was being so great. They came to my house where they’d stocked it with groceries and food.”
“They did the same for me. They’re really great.”
Her eyebrows rose. “I’m glad they did that for you. You deserve it. But as great as they are, all I kept thinking about was how much I wanted them to leave.”
“Why was that?”
“Because all I wanted was to be with you.”
Damn if this girl didn’t just light up something inside me that had never felt this way before. I lifted my head, needing to taste her again.
“Mac,” she whispered against my lips. “I need you to know it’s not just the sex I missed. I missedyou.”
“Oh, princess. I’m glad it isn’t just me.”
“You missed me?”
“I did.”
“So, we can officially be a couple?”
I took a deep breath, weighing her words. “It’s not without complications. I still work for you. How’s that going to look?”
She shook her head. “We don’t have a nonfraternization policy.”
“But it’s still going to look bad to the guys. They’re going to think I slept with you.”
She winked. “I could always fire you.”
My heart seized, betraying one of my biggest fears.
“Relax, big guy. That’s not going to happen. Your promotion was already in the works before we ever left. Anyone who says anything will answer to me,” she said with a determined glint in her eyes. “It’s not like you’re in the office much anyway. And you won’t answer directly to me. That will still be Will.” She frowned as she mentioned his name, but I didn’t want to talk about work anymore.
I rolled us over so that she was under me. I wasn’t as sure as she was that everything would go as smoothly as she thought it would, but for once, I was going to trust someone else with my future, at least for the short term. I would just have to hope everything else worked out, as well.
Chapter23
Mac
Cam pulledup to Silver Creek Farm, the property that belonged to Chase, and parked in a large, graveled area to the side of the classic white farmhouse. Zach’s car and Reid’s sheriff’s SUV were already parked beside a large pickup truck.
Getting a new truck was a big priority this week. Even though Cam said it wasn’t a problem to continue to use a company truck, I didn’t want any more favors that the guys could hold against me.
The front rooms of the house were lit up, and through the windows, I could see through to part of the dining room where members of Cam’s family were already laughing and having a good time together. I didn’t have to know what they were talking about to know there was a strong connection between all of them. For a brief moment, a pang of envy washed over me. Cam and her family had all suffered loss, but they’d had each other to fall back on. If Trey or I couldn’t be there for each other, we’d have no one.
