“Baby, we need to stop. I need to shower. I have to pick up my Grandma and take her to her doctor's appointment,” I grunted, feeling his hard pole against my thigh.
“You lucky I don’t want no smoke with G-ma Netta. She already threatened to shoot me for not letting you check-in.” He laughed, helping me out of the bed.
“I love that lady, but she is extra for no reason.” I giggled and walked slowly to his bathroom as Jamian followed behind me.
“Don’t be coming for my sugar mama,” he defended my grandma.
“I can’t believe she sold me out for a Chanel bag.” I shook my head.
“And some weed.” Jamian found that shit funny. For that, I was going to tell my mama that she smokes in her house when she isn't home.
Jamian and I showered before getting dressed. He was going into his office to handle some paperwork. He made dinner plans for us tonight, though, and I was happy with that. As much as I was enjoying him and that dick, I wanted to get out of the house. I needed a moment to rationalize how fast we were moving. Every Sunday, Jamian's mom would cook a huge dinner, and hewanted us to go as a couple so that I could meet his family as his girlfriend. Of course, I was nervous and tried to back out, but Jamian wasn’t having it.
“You had to pick the G-Wagon, shorty? You better not fuck up my shit.”
We were now in his garage. This man had too many rides for one person. Since my car was at my house, he let me pick one of his to drive today. Of course, I picked the Benz. It was so pretty. It was silver with black rims. The interior had black leather seats, and I couldn’t wait to drive this baby since it was brand new.
“Boy, please. I’ve been driving since I was fourteen,” I told him as he held the door open for me to climb inside.
“You got that, baby. Drive safely and hurry back. I love you.” He kissed my lips, but I was stunned by the words he had just spoken.Did he just say he loved me?
“Jami-”
He cut me off. “Yeah, I said it, and I meant it. I know we haven’t been together long, but I know what I feel in my heart, Juicy. Love doesn’t have a time stamp. Now, go ahead and take G-ma Netta to her appointment.” He didn’t wait for me to speak before he shut the door, leaving me speechless.
I drove to my mama’s house in deep thought as “Forever” by Ash B bumped loudly through the truck speakers. The song spoke volumes to me. I had been hurt in the past by a man who I thought was my equal. I just prayed that what Jamian and I were trying to build would last forever. I couldn’t take another heartbreak. I’ll gladly go to jail and smile in my mug shot if this man plays with my heart.
After picking up my grandma, we arrived at the doctor's office just a little before her appointment time. She got registered, and in no time, she was called to the back to see the doctor. Grandma Netta is a diabetic, but she hasn’t been eatingas healthy as she should, so her sugar glucose levels were high. He ran down all the things that she needed to do to keep it down. She fussed about how she wasn’t giving up her ham hock and pig feet.
“Grandma, you can’t eat that stuff anymore. It won’t kill you to eat healthy,” I told her.
“The hell it would. I’m going to continue to eat my pork, granddaughter. Fuck what these doctors say. That’s why I wish my old doctor didn’t retire. She was black and never told me what I couldn’t eat. Hell, I used to bring her ass a plate of my greens and fried pork chops.” Grandma wasn’t trying to hear it.
I didn’t even say anything else. I just let her talk her shit. Her doctor requested lab work, so we walked across the hall to diagnostics. The tech wrapped the thick rubber band around my grandma's arm before pulling out the needle and sticking it in her arm. As I watched the blood draw, my head got dizzy and my stomach got queasy all of a sudden. Before I knew what was happening, my eyes rolled back, and I fainted.
My head was pounding, and I had a slight pain in my side. I could hear light chatter around me. I slowly opened my eyes, looking around the room, feeling disoriented and confused. I noticed my mother and Jayla sitting on the small leather couch by the window as my grandma sat in a single seat next to them, wearing a surgical mask.
“Mom?” I called out to her.
“Sweetheart, you almost gave me a heart attack. When your grandmother called and told me you had fainted, I drove like a bat out of hell to get to my baby.” With tears at the brim of her eyes, my mother stroked the side of my face.
“Ma, what happened? Why am I in the hospital?” I slowly sat up on the bed.
“You fainted, baby.”
“Fainted?” I whispered and closed my eyes, trying to remember, but I was drawing a blank. The last thing I remember was being at the doctor’s office with Grandma Netta, and the tech was taking her blood.
“Friend, don’t be trying to leave me, hoe. We made a promise to grow old together and live off our husband’s social security checks.” Jayla was being extra, as always.
“I’m okay, boo. But I’m still confused why I fainted. Did the doctors say anything?” I looked over at my mother.
“Yeah, they told us. Congratulations are in order. I thought you had that Rona… that’s why I’m wearing my mask. But your test came back negative. You know, they say that it’s a new variant strain of Rona out here called FLiRT. They tested you for that, too, since you were out of the country being fresh. All your tests were negative except one.”
“Mama!” My mother gave grandma a stern look.
“What? She done went to Jamaica and bought back something, and it wasn’t a virus, is what happened. Didn’t Grandma give you some condoms? What, you forgot how to use them, child?” Jayla snickered at Grandma Netta antics.
As I listened to my grandma fuss, I was still confused about what the hell was wrong with me. Just when I was about to probe further, a lady wearing a white lab coat came walking into the room.
