“I know, baby.Right now if they aren’t lettin’ her own brothers back with her, there’s no way in hell they’ll let any of us in that operatin’ room with her.For now, we just have to wait for her to get out of surgery so we can see her and her son or daughter,” Rooster says gently to his wife before wrapping an arm around her shoulder as Omen takes a seat next to his mom with Oaklynn next to him.

“If Knuckles wasn’t such a fucking idiot, Janessa wouldn’t be completely alone.She’d have him at her side when she needs someone the most,” Marie practically growls, glaring daggers in my direction as I look over at her.

“Let’s just wait to see what’s going on with her.I don’t know her very well, but we all want to be there to protect her,” Oaklynn says, leaning forward and resting her hand on Marie’s arm.

For the next several hours, we sit in the waiting room and I keep my attention firmly locked on the three men here for Janessa.We don’t know anything about them and they’re way too close to the club members for my liking.There’s a risk to all of us as far as I’m concerned.Until I know anything about them, they’re a risk and I won’t let them out of my sight for any reason.

Chapter Six

Janessa

MY BROTHERS HAVE takencontrol over everything while I’ve been in the hospital for the last few days.They don’t let anyone from the club in my room but they haven’t made whoever is guarding my room leave.If there’s one thing I can say about my brothers it’s that they’ll do everything in their power to protect me and if that means using the club members to ensure no one can get to me once visiting hours are over, that’s what they’ll do.Daniel, as my oldest brother, has talked to Homicide and Omen to make sure they know they can guard the door but not let anyone inside.I overheard the conversation and it was with great reluctance they agreed to leave me alone.They’ll protect me to ensure Roger and his parents can’t get close to me and that anyone they’ve hired to attack me won’t get in the room either.

Roger is still in jail awaiting his sentencing.However, we’ve been told he’s had access to a phone that can’t record his conversations and still has a ton of people working for him.They’re just waiting to get his orders so they can get to me.His parents have taken it a step further.They’ve put a hit on me through the dark web.Brick found this information out when he was researching more into what they’ve been up to and where they’re staying.No, I didn’t hear this information first-hand.Rooster was telling my brothers just outside the door of my hospital room and I overheard them talking.Brick has been digging into everything and found out more than I thought he would.It’s been enough for them to put a few guys on Barb and David for surveillance.

I haven’t seen Knuckles since I was brought in here.I’ve heard him talking outside my room a few times, but that’s about it.It’s just one more way he’s proven to me that he truly wants nothing to do with his child.He was laughing and talking with whoever was on guard duty with him.Nothing in his world has changed and he’s still living his life the way he wants to—free from any responsibilities outside of the club and his gym.From what Tease was saying, he’s still taking full advantage of his single life and fucking everyone he comes across with a pussy.I wouldn’t expect anything less from him.If that’s what makes him happy, then I’m happy for him.Kaden and I will have a good life without him and I’ll make sure my son is raised to be the best version of himself he can possibly be.

“Sis, are you ready to get out of here?”Daniel questions me, his voice a gentle sound as he sits down on the edge of my bed with Kaden in his arms.

“I guess I am.Honestly, I have nowhere to go since my house was set on fire.I’m not moving back home, so I guess you can take me to a hotel or something until I can get a hold of the insurance company and find out what I have to do now,” I answer him, my voice filling with the stress of my situation.

I haven’t allowed myself to think of the situation since I had my son.At first I was too out of things to think about it.Then, I’ve been consumed with Kaden and taking care of him with the help of my brothers.One of them have been here until they get kicked out by the nurses.The second they can enter my room again when visiting hours start, they’re right back at my side and fussing over their nephew.I can already tell he’s gonna be spoiled by them and I’m not sure how to feel about it.

“You’re not stayin’ in a hotel with a newborn,” Rooster says, entering my room with Marie at his side.“We’ve got cabins on the compound and one of them has already been cleared out and furnished for the baby and you.It’s gonna be the safest place for you, Janessa.If you’re in a hotel or somewhere else, we won’t be able to keep guys on you.Seth and Kurt are out of the hospital, but they’re on restricted duty for now.If you’re in one of the cabins, guys will be around at all times.Not only for your protection, but in case you or the baby need somethin’.Marie and the women of the club will be around too.Janessa, you really don’t have any other options at this point.”

Rooster makes a good argument for me staying in one of their cabins.However, I refuse to be a burden on them and I don’t want Knuckles to think I’m staying there to rub the baby in his face.He obviously doesn’t want to be a dad and won’t believe me no matter what I have to say.So, I won’t force him to do anything or make him feel uncomfortable in any way.If I have to remain in one of the cabins, it doesn’t mean I have to see him.Knuckles won’t come out to visit me and I don’t have to go to the clubhouse for any reason.Well, as long as the cabin has a kitchen or somewhere I can cook food for myself.I don’t need anything from the club.

“I don’t know if staying in one of the cabins is the best decision for me,” I state, my voice wavering as I look down at the bed in front of me and keep my attention off the President of the Dirty Slayers and his wife.

“Nessa, it might be the only option you have.You have to think of Kaden and what’s best for him.You’re still healing from the surgery you had to have when he was born.If you’re outside the compound, there won’t be anyone to protect you.We’ve taken some time off of work, but we have to head back home tomorrow,” Daniel says, his voice gentle and coaxing as he looks at me.

“What about ...,” I start before cutting off when Aaron sits down next to me after pushing Daniel out of the way.

“No, Nessa.This is the only option for you like Daniel said.We do have to get back to work and can’t be here for you the way you need us.Let Rooster and his club protect you and be there to help you take care of the baby.If you can’t do this for yourself, then do it for your son,” Aaron begs me, resting his hand on my shoulder and leaning in close as if he’s shielding me from everyone else in the room with Kaden in my arms.

“I refuse to be a burden to anyone.Knuckles has made his feelings obvious and I don’t have to be that close to him.He might take it as me trying to force him in the baby’s life when that’s not something I’d ever do,” I practically whisper to him while not taking my eyes off my son.
